You hear the racket of gunshots, mechanical clutter and punctuating tones that ring out impatiently like an unanswered phone call. Hayward's words at times surfacing as meaningful utterances, at others buried under this dense sonic matter. \n\nThe manipulations of voice are also at times so extreme as to render them indistinguishable from the clattering electronics that engulf them. The speech shapeshifts, shudders, and shatters in the way a violin glides and trills above an orchestra. It spans the sounds of traditional folk,\nhypnotic drone and bass heavy UK dance music, interwoven with field recordings and samples,\nTB-303, harp and guitar. Ghostlore chose Sussex as the scene of their second drift as it is\nwhere Kieron and Sarah respectively spent their formative years. Further, the deaths of three\npeople in 2022 connected to Sussex who were significant to them both, one of which was\nSarah's father, prompted an urgent investigation into the geographical, personal and psychic\nties to the county.\n\nThe journey began in a 19th Century sandstone mine, a cave close to Chanctonbury Ring.\nSounds of groaning and groping are overlaid in the dark. The cave is where you are truly alone\nin the void. Hopeful choral vocals emerge from the depths; light within the darkness of psychic\nsuffering. Reworked sampling of a church organ accompanies Sarah's voice, redolent of the\nsounds of Christian faith, its churches interlaced into the Sussex countryside. Ghostlore's secret\nrecordings of chants in the monastic lay commune synchronise with synthetic drums and\nsamples, the rhythm punctured by a reconstructed 'carynx'. Spurred on by marching drums and\nsub bass echoing from the parties held on the South Downs - it's how a spectral Iron Age battle\nmight sound if made on a laptop.\n\nGhostlore's investigations into parapolitics, espionage, and polarised modern cults seek to\nreveal layers of reality within the experience of place whilst allowing a formative spiritual\nattachment to occur. The battle is outside and therefore within.
