Edge-to-edge, this duo inhabit a cold realm where every endpoint is compromised and circuit board is fried. Their notorious and blistering live show immortalised in the thousand yard stare of its survivors - innocent bystanders who often struggle to erase the experience from their now, corrupted memory dumps.

LP opener ‘Heart’ promptly sets the tone - greeting us with an auditory blue screen of death, jittering and shuddering forwards with no known resolution…. Instead, a synthesized panorama of cementum rubble and odontoblast-carpeted ruins is projected behind the eyes as the listener is now held in a state of still conscious cryonic suspension, aware of their fragile physical form now being held surrounded by the dissonant whining of invisible machines inserting tendrils between the intervertebral foramen. As the user progresses through the second file in the program, they are given a false sense of escape as the vision gives way to a sonic projection of a warehouse rave. However, this is short-lived as a feeling of nausea washes over them, and they realize that beyond the brittle drum machine battery coming from the front of the space, all they can hear is the howling judgment of the AI-generated wraiths surrounding them who keep them on a tight leash as they attempt to traverse the dance-floor. Interrogational transmissions then begin to bombard the user, reaching unseen and newly implanted biomechanical receivers, convincing them that they are in fact, internal thoughts, resulting in the complete destruction of the mentalself in time for the Ritual of Purification held within file four. Here the user is physically changed beyond all recognition. Sheets of metallic, harsh noise rend flesh from bone. At the same time, simulated drums set a funeral tempo for machines working with the deliberate motions of a demonic invocation as they rebuild a superior metallic exoskeleton around the participant within the FLESH program. As file five runs its course, the user begins to hear their heart beating again within their new post-human form. Staggering forth in a state of disorientation with their PCM files for speech misfiring internally, the sonically remodelled specimen finds themselves at odds with society, Barked at by figures claiming false authority over them in a ridiculous costume, cut and dyed in colours that attempt to project fictions of morality and national identity that are laughable in this new age of multiplicity of digital identity and a life now beyond supposed biological limitations.

Politicians and a narrow circle of elite media commentators have been obsessing about trans people. BKV 026 swells up from the Bristol swamp in the forms of post-human industrial duo Bad Tracking. Here they have assembled variously, one spacious black metal intro (with original screams), an industrial-pop earworm not unlike Depeche Mode imploding in a feedback tunnel, two itch-tek dancefloor riddims namecheking local venue bans and I just don’t know what to call ‘Wellspring’ really, the end of days? Well you had it coming anyway…..Known in town for upsetting local MPs and lisencees with their live performances as ‘naked technology sex slaves’ [think cassette-induced self harm, total nudity, blood from ears], Bad Tracking are the most visceral thing we’ve seen in this new wave of Avon experimental - a breath of life into the longstanding tradition of industrial performance art (and an antidote to idle BR club culture). Lyrically touching on censorship and tech // sonically they use feedback as a punishing instrument of anguish and expression. Widower EP is truly chewed nail sonics, more human than all your noise records, genuinely more scary than your edgelord power electronics nonsense, more forward than all yer government funded experimental think-records. The songs themselves show the breadth of the group’s scope in terms of influences and approaches — material that is hundreds of years old being brought to (new) life, with soul-stirring and tender melodies rising to dramatic doom-laden highs via avant-garde and experimental techniques.

The album is a collection of 7 interlinked songs, each heralded by the tolling of a bell to mark the ‘hour’. They were created sequentially: the first song was created pre-lockdown, the last song was created post-lockdown, and the 5 in between were recorded in August 2020 at The Premises Studios, London, by the ‘fifth member’, Tom Berry, who recorded their OEIRA EP while still a student in 2018 and who they have worked with ever since. He understands how the group like to record — all together in a live room, where they can see and directly respond to each other — something important for the semi-improvised sections of their music. He also contributed creatively to the final result, for example reamping the cello and guitar through vintage amps and expertly applying analogue delay to the bowed cymbal on Ion.

The Black Hours was begun in late 2019 and was completed mid-way through 2021. The way that the album carried the band through the strange journey of the pandemic resonates with the theme and visuals of the album. The entire record is a reference to a medieval illuminated manuscript of the same name, a unique and intimate book of prayers to mark The Liturgy of the Hours, or The Office of the Dead — with prayers to mark the hours from morning to evening and all through the night. Created between 1460 and 1475, The Black Hours is hand-scribed on black vellum with real gold, silver, and at the time more valuable than either of these — turquoise pigment. The idea of marking time, especially dark times, this way appealed to the group — the focused contemplation of prayer being akin to the focus of creating and crafting music.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0867/1120/6219/files/4da35c11-f2aa-444f-b9b8-ccc1a38b56a3_thumbnail_4096.jpg?v=1728087818
visceral-snacks
Visceral Snacks

Weird Weather present their debut album, a contorted and heavily mangled sound-set of FM synths, old samplers and sonic detritus.
