The resulting album was mixed and then remixed by Tony Bongiovi, much to Cannata's chagrin. Session bass on the album came from future BON JOVI man Hugh McDonald. James Christian (House of Lords) sung on backing vocals on almost all tracks. CANNATA would not resurface until 1988 with his second album, although the Arc Angel tag had been dropped in favour of Jeff Cannata's own surname. Guitarist Jay Johnson formed part of the 1989 supergroup DEADRINGER for their 'Electrocution Of The Heart' album. Johnson worked in collusion with ex-TED NUGENT, VICTORY and HUMBLE PIE singer Charlie Huhn, former BLUE ÖYSTER CULT man Joe Bouchard and the erstwhile ALICE COOPER and BILLION DOLLAR BABIES rhythm section of bassist Dennis Dunaway and drummer Neal Smith. FIRE FIRE heralds the beginnings of speed metal, which was still very much underground at the time. The guitar chorus on this track is undoubtedly one of Christophe 9 AUBERT's finest. SPEED MOI makes the transition to a more rock'n'roll but also more adventurous B-side. The fabulous BAHAMAS MEMORIAL, a kind of Blues-tinged heavy rock, all metalized WARNING-style (whose marvelous intro flirts with Billy GIBBONS' swing boogie!), has a Californian tinge hitherto unheard of in the band's repertoire. The harder-than-metal STRANGE WAY OF LOVE and SEXY LUBIE are brimming with more surprising finds than ever before. Album II reaches its climax with PLANET REVERSE and its cascade of sunny riffs and paradoxically impenetrable lyrics. Now with this fifth album in the can, it’s a sure bet we’re gonna see a lot more riffing rock action around town from these guys.Drummer Brett ‘Wolfie’ Wolfenden has joined long-time guitarist Tommy Boyce and bassist Damo Campbell, giving the group an even more streamlined approach. Wolfie has been just as active over the years. The Casanovas maintain the elementary, street level, riff heavy, melodic brand of hard rock that has held them in good stead. Reference points and forebears are obvious in their sound: Cheap Trick, The Cult (just check out the cover), AC\/DC, Motorhead, Legs Diamond, KISS, Ted Nugent. Everything from opener ‘The Devil in Me’ through ‘When You Want Something from Me’ and ‘Burning Up the Night’, on to ‘City Streets’, goes from full tilt rawk to mid-tempo rawk, as lean and righteous as a Melbourne Cup favourite. It’s only with the penultimate track, ‘Her Kiss’, that they bring the pace down to a sleazy slow burn; yet even then they can’t help themselves with a rave up finish. Last track ‘Kundalini Rising’ pulls out the Nugent ‘Stranglehold’ riff to maximum effect for a psych-infused epic with a spacey bridge where they get all “Krishna, Krishna, Hare, Hare Krishna” on our asses; oddball but hot and tasty supreme. The first single “WHATEVER IT TAKES” did well but the band never felt that it represented them as well as some of the other songs on the album but as Ahmet Ertegun (head of ATLANTIC RECORDS USA) loved the song and insisted, they gladly went with it. It did well and on the back of that, they constantly toured throughout the world, ripping through their shows with high energy, raw power and honest rock and roll to incredible responses from crowds and all media. When Atlantic UK folded that year, Kiss of the Gypsy was passed over to EAST WEST UK to take over who had passed up the chance to sign the band months before ATLANTIC did. This presented the problem of not being as prioritised as before. They stuck to what they always did best, touring! Kiss of the Gypsy played everywhere and anywhere living and breathing rock wherever they played. Unfortunately, album\/single releases and promotion didn’t go hand in hand and the timing and planning was out of their hands. In 1992 Kiss of the Gypsy started work on a new album with a fresher and more adventurous sound which they aired at the BULLDOG BASH in a magical evening. Their first album, Deaf Godz of Babylon, was released in the fall of 1989. The album's lead single, \"Out with the Boys\", reached No. 40 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart. A ballad, \"Foolish Love\", was the album's follow-up single. Although the Deaf Godz of Babylon album failed to sell many copies, it remains a notable release for its use of humor and its diverse influences, ranging from Beastie Boys to Motörhead Following the release of Deaf Godz, the band toured extensively from 1989–1991 and broke apart while on the road in the summer of 1991. The attitude is there. The hooks are solid. The humor is infectious as it even takes some shots at the genre. There's not a dud track to be found here as it veers from hard rock to ballad to speed metal satire. The mix of the album is perfect. The liner notes for the album are an interesting read with mention of the \"mindless guitar\" and \"Viking\" parts of \"Piranha\" as well as huge praise for Mark Dodson's production and guitar work. After one week, there was a rumour in the record-business in L.A saying \"There's three Norwegians in town with a tape that burns\". They figured that the really interested labels would come to Oslo and see them live so they put up a gig in Oslo and MCA, Atlantic and Warner came. MCA were represented by the president himself, Al Teller, together with three people from other territories! The people from the Norwegian record-industry who attended the show were stunned when they saw who was there. Finally, Sons Of Angels signed to Atlantic and they came back to the U.S to record their first album with producer Kevin Elson (Journey, Mr Big, Europe…). They released their first self-titled album in 1990 on May 11. They weren't very well known but their first record managed to sell over 150 000 copies. They had a bit of success with the album's single and first track – ‘Cowgirl’ Cowgirl was the very first song they did and it became kind of anthem. On the 10 tracks, we find ‘Lonely Rose’ and one groove-laden song inspired by the love that Lars Kilevold had for Prince entitled ‘Trance Dance’. Unfortunately, the deal with Atlantic ended in April 1991. Mario had decided at the time, that he would be able to keep the singer mic hot. Eventually they saw a young blond guy named Romy Belanger and knew right away that they had their man. He was not only good on the fret board, but he could sing too. The power trio didn’t last long, because they decided to add keyboard\/rhythm guitarist Mike Pitre in early '83 to fill out their sound. The Band played covers in bars and clubs throughout the province of Quebec, travelling in their own school bus. Mario and Romy started writing together, and \"Step over the line\" was their very first collaboration. They recorded a demo of that song straight from the mixing board. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThat demo got them a record deal with Globe Records. they also gave a cassette copy to a guy at the local radio station, and that thing played so often everybody knew the lyrics! So, they pretty much toured all the time, going from town to town and writing more songs. These songs were recorded and by exceptional luck, their demo had been given to renowned Quebec producer Ben Kaye, and he wanted to meet and see the band live. Once they had enough material, they went to Detroit, Michigan to record, in what was once the original Motown Studios, The Sound Suite Studio. The sessions were held in early October of '83. They played their asses off for months on end, but Pete the drummer’s health was deteriorating. Pete had been diagnosed with leukaemia at 17 and he passed away a few days before his comeback from pneumonia and complications brought on by the leukaemia. Sylvain LaTendresse came aboard during this time and the replacement drummer became a full-time member. The road is tough, but the scene in '84 was also tough on bands. Tensions were building within the band as well. Mario and Mike wanted to play a heavier style of music and they were thinking about hiring a singer. The songs Hot Spikes and Rock n Roll Suicide are historically important for Fist because they mark the first times front-man Ron Chenier uses his signature Ronch vocals, the deep and raspy snarls that are reminiscent of Lemmy's from Motorhead. These would later, with the exception of the album In the Red, become the iconic style of singing used by Fist in general. However, most of the album features Chenier using a cleaner style of singing, or other vocalists besides Chenier himself. A lot of these tracks are infectiously repetitious, but in a way that makes them irresistible. One listen to Teenage Love Affair and it will simply refuse to leave the head for hours. The same thing goes for Alimony or Never Come Back. Granted, this is not usually what hard rock bands try to do. They barely fit the mold whatsoever. Besides a bass, It’s a Sin doesn’t even feature an electric guitar of any sort. Every song on the album could almost be said to take the instrumental approach of Who Are You? from Black Sabbaths fifth album, but with a more happy-go-lucky tone. The only difference is that there is a decent amount of hard rock guitar on most tracks. This album is commendable for daring to be different at a time when this genre of music was moving toward uniformity. While most metal fans are so because they enjoy the standard sounds of hard rock and metal, there are many fans who surely can appreciate something that is bold and original. Hot Spikes is very intriguing and fun. Ladies and gentlemen … Side Kixx!\" Kotch lets an opening wail, and they launch into a fiery, pounding rocker. They get back on track with No More (Getting' the Best of Me). Instead of good times and partying, this is an edgier song. Kotch adds an element of anger to his delivery, and instead of making you want to drink beer and party, the song makes you want to pick a fight.Wicked cool song. It all ends with You Make the Rockin' World Go Round. This is probably a shout-out to Queen, with triumphant shredding from Peterson on guitar and more manic drumming from the other Peterson.
