Buddy Guy

Buddy Guy is an American blues guitarist and singer, born on July 30th, 1936 in Lettsworth, Louisiana. He is recognized as one of the pioneers of the Chicago blues sound. In the '50s, he began performing with bands in Baton Rouge before making his way to Chicago in 1957.

Initially recording for Cobra Record Corp.'s subsidiary Artistic, Buddy Guy later joined Chess Records where he worked as both a sideman and leader. During this time, he also recorded under the pseudonym Friendly Chap for Delmark Records. His talent led him to Vanguard in 1967 and subsequently to collaborations with various labels.

With an impressive career spanning decades, Buddy Guy has received numerous accolades including six Grammy awards and 23 W.C. Handy Awards. In recognition of his contributions to music, he was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 2003 and was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 2005. Additionally, he became a member of the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2008.
