Collection: Cabaret Voltaire
Cabaret Voltaire is a British music group from Sheffield, England. Initially composed of Stephen Mallinder, Richard H. Kirk and Chris Watson, the group was named after the Cabaret Voltaire, a nightclub in Zurich that was a center for the early Dada movement.
Starting as dada-influenced performance art, Cabaret Voltaire later became one of the most important groups to blend pop with dance music, techno, dub house and experimental electronic music. They formed in Sheffield in 1973 and experimented widely with sound creation and processing before turning to live performances.
In their career, they released several acclaimed singles and albums such as "The Voice of America" and "Red Mecca." The band went through various lineup changes over the years but continued to push boundaries in their sound. In recent years, Richard H. Kirk has resurrected the Cabaret Voltaire moniker for solo performances and released new material under this name.
