The band featured \u003cstrong\u003eJohn Etheridge\u003c\/strong\u003e on guitar, \u003cstrong\u003eDek Messecar\u003c\/strong\u003e on bass, and \u003cstrong\u003eIan Mosley\u003c\/strong\u003e on drums and began primarily as an instrumental band, showcasing the considerable electric violin, viola, and keyboard playing talents of \u003cstrong\u003eDarryl Way\u003c\/strong\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eSigning to Decca’s Deram imprint in 1973, their debut album, \u003cem\u003eCanis Lupus\u003c\/em\u003e, featured former King Crimson saxophonist \u003cstrong\u003eIan McDonald\u003c\/strong\u003e in the role of both producer and guest musician. \u003cstrong\u003eWolf\u003c\/strong\u003e’s follow-up album, \u003cem\u003eSaturation Point\u003c\/em\u003e, continued to explore the fusion of rock with classical and jazz overtones.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eBecoming a popular attraction on the college rock scene, \u003cstrong\u003eWay\u003c\/strong\u003e sought to expand the musical horizons of the group still further by recruiting vocalist \u003cstrong\u003eJohn Hodgkinson\u003c\/strong\u003e, formerly with jazz-rock outfit If. With this line-up, the band took on a new lease of life as was evidenced both on stage and on the outstanding 1974 album \u003cem\u003eNight Music\u003c\/em\u003e, arguably \u003cstrong\u003eWolf\u003c\/strong\u003e’s finest achievement.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWolf\u003c\/strong\u003e finally disbanded in late 1974 when \u003cstrong\u003eDarryl Way\u003c\/strong\u003e joined a reformed incarnation of Curved Air. \u003cstrong\u003eDek Messecar\u003c\/strong\u003e later joined Caravan in 1976 while \u003cstrong\u003eJohn Etheridge\u003c\/strong\u003e joined Soft Machine and \u003cstrong\u003eIan Mosley\u003c\/strong\u003e became an in-demand session player and later joined Marillion.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eCadenza – The Complete Recordings\u003c\/em\u003e features all three albums recorded by \u003cstrong\u003eWolf\u003c\/strong\u003e, along with all of their singles, newly remastered from the original Deram master tapes.
