For \u003cem\u003eSounds Like...\u003c\/em\u003e, Florry's sophomore effort as a fully realized band, Medosch and co. decamped to Drop of Sun studios in the nest of the Blue Ridge Mountains to record with Asheville wunderkind \u003cstrong\u003eColin Miller\u003c\/strong\u003e, a critical voice behind the records of MJ Lenderman, Wednesday, and Merce Lemon and a powerful songwriter in his own right. Three powerhouse days in late 2023 solidified writing work done by the band earlier that summer in the now defunct Haw Creek compound under Miller's guiding suggestion.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe result is a portrait of a ripping band cresting towards the height of their powers, uniquely equipped to capture a wildly loving, barn-burning camcorder clip of a turbulent trip with your best friends, without dipping into nostalgia bait. The Oklahoma-born \u003cstrong\u003eVerrill\u003c\/strong\u003e didn’t write her first song until age 34. \u003cstrong\u003eJeff\u003c\/strong\u003e has played in Bill Callahan’s band, now drums with Thor \u0026amp; Friends and Orange Mothers, and still works on experimental puppet work.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eLittle Mazarn\u003c\/strong\u003e has also collaborated with Thor Harris (Swans), Honey Island General Store (2023), following two previous LPs on Dear Life and Self Sabotage Records, and past LPs released by Keeled Scales (2022) and 10 (2019). Alongside this new record, \u003cstrong\u003eLindsey\u003c\/strong\u003e directs music from Kate Wolf and Bob Wills to Six Texas Playboys, giving direct musical roots to \u003cem\u003eMustang Island\u003c\/em\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eLindsey\u003c\/strong\u003e left her job at a hearing clinic to help call a hot check in school. Recording also aligned with the death of \u003cstrong\u003eLindsey\u003c\/strong\u003e’s father, a career educator, in \u003cstrong\u003eJeff\u003c\/strong\u003e and \u003cstrong\u003eLindsey\u003c\/strong\u003e’s hometown of Dallas. “Grief, and the avoidance of grief, is a big part of being human,” says \u003cstrong\u003eLindsey\u003c\/strong\u003e. “You make a choice, and then you grieve for the other choice. Or you finish a meal and literally grieve that it was so good.
