Master tape sound and insert with rare photos and liner notes by Plastic Crimewave.… Formed in the late 60s in Salem, Ohio, out of the ashes of two garage bands, the Markees and the Sound Barrier (of the legendary “Hey, Hey” 45 on Zounds), Noah consisted of Mark Scheuring (guitar & lead vocals), Larry Davis (drums), Paul Hess (bass & backup vocals) and Danny Hall (keyboards & backup vocals). In 1972 the band recorded in just two days a concept album titled “Brain Suck” at Cleveland Recording studios with engineer/producer Ken Hamann (of Grand Funk Railroad and James Gang fame). Noah’s music was dark and heavy, dominated by killer Hammond organ, hard guitar and powerful vocals. This is truly a major find for anyone into hard psychedelia. In the words of Steve Krakow (Plastic Crimewave): “it conjures the heavy, doomy vibe of Blue Cheer’s “Fruit and Icebergs” suite; the bluster of Sir Lord Baltimore (but maybe with Keith Emerson on keys); and a biker ferocity found on the Fraction Moonblood Lp. Hooker (without the lounge allusions), or late period psych adventurers Michael Angelo and Bobb Trimble-and his concentration and vision equals or exceeds these international underground heroes. Rick Saucedo is an internationally-known Elvis tribute artist, actor and singer-songwriter from Chicago. In 1978, after some years of doing his Elvis show, he decided he wanted to have his own identity, recording an album with his own songs. The idea of “Heaven Was Blue” was born while he was doing the role of Elvis in the Broadway musical “The Legend Lives On”. Influenced by The Beatles and Pink Floyd, Rick created “Heaven Was Blue” for himself, as he didn’t care about the music of the time. All instruments on the album were played by Rick with a couple of friends helping him out. Songs like “Reality”, which was written in a graveyard just after the passing of Mr. Presley or “In My Mind”, which dated back to 1967, written just after “Sgt. Pepper” had come out, are prime examples of dreamy acid psych with Lennon-esque vocals, lysergic guitars & studio effects. There’s also a couple of fuzz rockers with a strong ’50s vibe and then there’s the album centerpiece: the impressive 18-minute “Heaven Was Blue” suite, which Rick envisioned as an “acid trip dream”. In words of Patrick Lundborg: “…Saucedo pulls it off. Somehow like how you turn the wheels on a kaleidoscope, new melodies, guitar figures and arrangements emerge out of the old ones every three minutes, each sequence more swirling and enchanting that the last, with a sense of progression throughout.” This expanded reissue offers a full extra album of bonus tracks: “Oh My God” was the conclusion to “Reality” / “In My Mind”, recorded in 1978 but omitted from the original album at the last moment. Previously unreleased on vinyl until now. “Baby in the Sand / It Burns Again Today” were written during the ‘Heaven Was Blue’ sessions but went unrecorded until 1991 and they’re terrific sitar-drenched melodic psych in the same vein as the original album. Previously unreleased on vinyl until now. And there’s also both sides of the post- album single “Reality” b/w “History Makin’ – Country Shakin’,” which featured different mixes and an alternate mix of “Reality”. Miller, a proto-Goth figure always dressed in black, highly influenced by Joe Meek and vintage sci-fi / horror movies, started to experiment with weird noises out of his electrified autoharp, favoring the audio-oriented drug mescaline over the LSD associated with hippies. To celebrate our 30th anniversary we thought it would be fun to remember those early times of the label, so we present the first batch of our special and limited releases, including a collection of cool garage-psych 45s in limited editions that won’t be repressed and reissue of the second album from the Jaybirds, one of our fave bands from the 90s."

"It was 30 years ago in 1996 when Antoni Gorgues founded Guerssen Records as a one-man operation. While California became the epicenter, a parallel scene was quietly exploding in Florida—fueled by young musicians inspired by the British Invasion and artists like Hendrix and Cream, yet searching for a heavier, more original sound. In Sarasota and Bradenton, a tight-knit group of players gathered around a small venue called Club Toro. Among them were Larry Reinhardt, Reese Wynans, Richard ‘Hombre’ Price, Berry Oakley, and Dickey Betts—musicians who would soon help shape what the world would later call Southern Rock. What started as cover bands quickly evolved into something louder and more experimental. Out of this scene came two interconnected bands: The Load (a power trio comprised of Larry Reinhardt, Richard Price and Mounty Young) and The Second Coming (featuring Dickey Betts & Berry Oakley). By 1968, both groups had relocated to Jacksonville, Florida, sharing houses, stages, and an emerging musical vision. Their live shows—especially at legendary local spots like the Forrest Inn— became marathon jam sessions, drawing crowds of up to 2,000 people and attracting players like Duane Allman, Butch Trucks, and Jaimoe. These collaborations would ultimately lead to the formation of The Allman Brothers Band, while the remaining members continued forging their own path—raw, heavy, and deeply rooted in blues, psychedelia, and improvisation. In April 1969, a new, revamped line-up of the Second Coming - rechristened as The 2nd Coming - and featuring Larry Reinhardt (guitar), Reese Wynans (organ), Richard ‘Hombre’ Price (bass) plus two drummers (Monty Young and John Meeks), entered Sound Laboratory in Jacksonville to record what would become the “Evaluations” album. But when the band couldn’t pay the $6,000 studio bill, the album was shelved. A failed trip to New York to secure a deal sealed its fate, and the band soon dissolved. The master tapes were left behind—lost and forgotten for decades. Meanwhile, the musicians went on to remarkable careers: Larry Reinhardt would join Iron Butterfly and co-found Captain Beyond. Reese Wynans would play with Stevie Ray Vaughan and later Joe Bonamassa. Richard ‘Hombre’ Price would work with artists like Lucinda Williams, Vassar Clements, North Mississippi Allstars and many more. The legend might have ended there—until the late 1990s, when the original master tape was rediscovered in a storage archive. Purchased by the former band members, the recordings were finally back in their rightful hands. After years of remaining unheard, the project has now been fully restored and released in collaboration with Guerssen Records, bringing this powerful, long-lost recording to light for the very first time. The 2nd Coming captures a pivotal moment— the exact crossroads where psychedelic rock evolved into the Southern jam sound that would soon change American music.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0867/1120/6219/collections/test_7cfa8fc2_thumbnail_4096_6a5b1d20-36c8-46ad-befe-eb661e79df8c.jpg?v=1726030400
