Wishy came to life as a musical partnership between the two Indianapolis musicians when Pitchkites moved back home from Philadelphia in 2021. The two bonded over their love for 90s alternative bands like The Sundays and My Bloody Valentine and soon began crafting their own brand of swirling pop-rock with an introspective, grungy flair. By day Krauter works as a music teacher, giving drum and guitar lessons to students, while Pitchkites is a seamstress by trade and often makes embroidered merch for the band. While Krauter spent the better part of the last decade cementing his place as a torchbearer of Midwestern dream pop with 2018's Toss Up and 2020's Full Hand, Pitchkites delved into her own indie electro-pop project Push Pop, writing songs like "Spinning" that would later be reworked for Wishy. To round out the live band, Pitchkites and Krauter enlisted guitarist Dimitri Morris, bassist Mitch Collins, and drummer Conner Host. Across two trips to Los Angeles in late 2022 and early 2023, Krauter and Pitchkites linked up with friend and producer Ben Lumsdaine, who had some spare time between Durand Jones tours to record the pair's newly written songs. The result of their fruitful time in sunny California is the aptly named Paradise, a breezy and melodic EP that puts on full display the songwriter's musical fluency. Tastefully blending shoegaze, dreampop, and alt-rock into a heavenly haze, Wishy delivers a strong 5-song introduction that's dense with melodic earworms and stirring sentiment. Wishy's debut single for new label home Winspear, the driving and distorted "Donut," showcases Pitchkites' hypnotic vocal and Krauter's melancholic wash of guitars. Written after a period when Pitchkites was driving on a spare, "Donut" laments the cynical capitalism of Midwest living and the reliance on a car to get around. Of the song Pitchkites says "When you've got the possibility of the open road plus the limitations of your shitty car–and you're stuck driving on a donut spare tire– it's a Catch 22." Throughout Paradise, the band laments on American loneliness and idealism as it relates to our everyday lives. Across the EP's five tracks, Pitchkites and Krauter trade bittersweet reflections on love and self actualization over vast, scrappy guitar chords. The whole thing feels equally indebted to early aughts alt-rock and '90s jangle pop. Wishy's music is cathartic, yet underlined by a subtle brooding energy—sitting nicely alongside the work of their contemporaries like Momma or Tanukichan, both of whom Wishy will have shared the stage with. Wishy will be touring this Fall supporting Tanukichan, and the band will make their first festival appearance at LEVITATION in Austin, TX. After graduating from Wesleyan in 2012 with a degree in music, Lindsay formed her first band with her brother, a 5-piece group called Grammar. She spent her 20’s quietly making music in Boston and working at a sculpture studio until she was discovered on Soundcloud by a manager who encouraged her to move to Brooklyn and pursue a career in music by forming a band. Lindsay obliged and soon Barrie, the 5-piece band, was born. After a number of successful singles, Barrie released their debut in 2019, Happy To Be Here, earning buzzy press, TV syncs, and new fans around the globe. While Lindsay has maintained a separation between her personal feelings and lyricism in previous works, she allowed herself to find catharsis in song amidst the intense love and grief she was experiencing. One night during a moment of grief, Lindsay couldn’t bring herself to set up the mic properly in her studio. Instead, she opted to shout across the room in a true “fuck-it” moment. Liking the effect this produced, she decided to stick with it, yielding “Dig,” a self-produced single featuring an impressionistic slew of slide guitar, dulcimer, and mandolin. Political pop can be awkward, but Lindsay’s is subtle and poignant, reflecting on Glen Campbell’s classic “Wichita Lineman,” and Americans’ attitudes towards labour. The production on Majetic’s new album alludes to various dance genres but never quite embodies them. Amorphous and peripheral, it's music for the sidewalks adjacent the club—a score for the bittersweet comedowns. Club Dread marks a transition for Majetic. Initially conceived as a lo-fi endeavor to record songs made with friends in those days of uncertainty, ‘Mirror, Reflect’ is an intimate and exploratory work that weaves collected home and field recordings with shimmering synths and Oelsner’s playful lyricism. A stalwart presence in the indie-pop underground since 2012, Oelsner shifted her approach to record making 6 on ‘Mirror, Reflect’ to emphasize process over product, with the resulting songs born out of a myriad of home sessions, song-a-day projects, songwriting workshops and online collaborations. This kind of patchwork, home-spun approach was familiar to Oelsner, who made her name with her sparkling, homemade pop songs before releasing three studio albums, including her most recent album, 2019’s Shell. ‘Mirror, Reflect’ gently shrugs off the sheen of those studio albums, as an early prenatal recording of Oelsner’s daughter’s heartbeat opens the record in the near-ambient instrumental prelude of “Honey”—a wonderfully nuanced dispatch from the dog days of summer that’s under-bellied by both the precarity and beauty of the early months of infancy and new motherhood. Oelsner’s knack for finding magic in the mundane is also deeply apparent on “Dribble Dribble,” where the stick-with-you nature of the playful rhyme schemes of the children’s books that became a regular part of her literary intake are worked into a lilting reflection on resilience, destruction and loss. Oelsner’s initiation into motherhood is inseparable from the poetic heart of ‘Mirror, Reflect’, but the album is also largely informed by the shifts in Oelsner’s relationship to herself. Through playful and emotionally acute observations, Amy O turns the potentially contractive experiences of motherhood, isolation, family and aging into a freewheeling work where ephemerality and humor collide over her deft lyrical phrasing, musicality and her keen observations turned poetic revelations.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0867/1120/6219/files/Amy_O_-_Mirror_Reflect_0c0d340b_thumbnail_4096.jpg?v=1728114768
moveys-deluxe-edition
Moveys (Deluxe Edition)

Slow Pulp celebrates five years of their breakout debut album Moveys with a deluxe reissue. Following their dreamy 2024 debut EP Oxalis, Mount Zero arrives on the heels of the band’s signing to LA-based label Winspear, after stirring up buzz throughout Australia, taking home awards for Best Release and Best Song ("Ceiling Fan") at the South Australian Music Awards and earning the title of ‘Best Emerging Artist’ at SXSW Sydney. Mingling airy sweetness with jagged surrealism, Mount Zero transmutes so many of the regrets and uncertainties of young adulthood into a burgeoning, newfound confidence. Though the members of Swapmeet often begin their songs by writing individually, the tracks on Mount Zero ended up circling common themes: first loves, first heartbreaks, first embarrassments, first disasters. As they've done since their earliest days as a band, Swapmeet traded instruments throughout Mount Zero and shared production duties as a foursome, developing their sound by layering dozens (sometimes hundreds) of tracks within each song, then carefully removing elements until the production took a clear shape.
