A Unique Blend of Traditional Throat Singing, Playful Lyrics, Open-Tuned Guitar, and Kohkin...[Kanagawa, Japan] – Posuposu Otani, the mysterious throat singer and songwriter known for his unique fusion of beautiful open-tuned guitar and the Kohkin (Jew’s Harp), is set to release his first physical album, Posuposu Otani, on March 28, 2025. The album explores rich harmonics, fluid rhythms, and a focus on overtones and timbre, evoking moods reminiscent of Impressionist painters.The album was introduced to the London-based label 33-33 by Posuposu Otani’s friend and fellow Yamanashi resident FujIIIIIIIIIIIIta, the renowned experimental musician with close ties to the label.Born in 1972 and raised in Kamakura, Japan, Posuposu Otani’s musical journey began at age 20 with a passion for punk music, leading him to experiment with home recordings on a 4-track tape deck. His diverse experiences, including time spent in San Francisco’s skateboarding scene and travels through India and the Republic of Sakha to study the Kohkin, have profoundly influenced his sound.Since 2006, he has been a prominent figure in the Tokyo and Yokohama underground music scenes, closely associated with the legendary experimental record label Kouenji Enban. In 2017, he relocated to the mountainous regions of Kanagawa to immerse himself in "mountainmusic and mountain life," further shaping his artistic vision.Posuposu Otani’s lyrics often reflect his deep connection to the natural world and the human experience, addressing themes of freedom, nature, and self-discovery. Songs like Finding Fungus and About Freedom highlight his focus on the organic world and its parallels to the inner human journey.In celebration of the album release, Posuposu Otani will perform live for the first time outside of Japan at the Rewire Festival in The Hague, taking place during the first weekend of April 2025. Set for release on April 11, 2025, via 33-33, this album stands as an unfiltered document of one of the most powerful Incapacitants performances ever recorded, capturing the raw energy and unrelenting force of the moment. This project is a collaboration across generations, bringing together the pioneering Japanese noise duo Incapacitants and the uncompromising sonic force of Puce Mary. Having admired Incapacitants for many years, Puce Mary (Frederikke Hoffmeier) steps into their sonic world with reverence and intensity, merging her own distinct textures with their raw, unrelenting chaos.The recording unfolds in two distinct phases. The first half features Incapacitants’ signature full-frequency annihilation—Toshiji Mikawa and Fumio Kosakai conjuring an unrelenting storm of sound, chaotic yet surgically precise. As the set reaches its breaking point, Puce Mary enters the fray, layering her searing textures and controlled eruptions over the maelstrom, driving the performance into even harsher, more ecstatic realms.There is no post-production polish, no overdubs—only the raw energy of three of noise music’s most formidable figures colliding in real time. The album serves as both a sonic artifact and a piece of historical documentation, immortalizing a legendary intergenerational performance at Tokyo’s Wall&Wall. The album’s artwork features striking photography from the event by Ryu Ika, capturing the intensity and spirit of the performance. The release has been expertly mastered by revered U.S. noise artist John Wiese, ensuring that every jagged edge and overwhelming frequency is preserved in its full force

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0867/1120/6219/files/208527-puce-mary-incapacitants-live-at-wallwall-mode-20240601.jpg?v=1742977991
