Their original arrangement of folk music from eastern Greater Poland is filled with deep respect for the original material, and at the same time expresses their subjective view of tradition. A bold look, full of references to jazz, blues, early music and free improvisation.
The repertoire was based on folk melodies from the Konin area - from the villages of Babiak, Kramsk and Osiek Wielki. The lyrics were written by the singer and poet, Gosia Zagajewska. Creators coming primarily from the world of improvisation and jazz propose a new, non-obvious and uncompromising reinterpretation of traditional music, with a mood and sound loosely referring to artists such as Tom Waits or Nick Cave. The arrangements are largely based on rhythm, trance, looping, but also on improvisation, from which the tradition of rural music-making largely derives.

In November 2022, their debut album "Ciche miejsca" (Quiet Places) was released by Gusstaff Records and Don't Sit On My Vinyl. The trio consistently familiarizes listeners with an uncompromising reinterpretation of traditional music, while surprising them with fresh, mature and bold ideas.
The full sound of the double bass and drums gives space for a strong voice, creating a solid structure in which these three instruments interpenetrate each other.
The precise arrangements and improvisatory lightness of the Tuleje trio give the feeling that their music knows where it comes from and where it is going, while maintaining the spontaneity of the continuous creation process.
The texts tell the author's personal story in an abstract way. There is a motif of the city and its elements, such as walls, gates and streets, which are interwoven with floral motifs - well known to listeners from the band's first album, e.g. "a thin branch of ivy" that "pulls down the blanket at night". They are currently collaborating with Cezary Rosiński (Młyn) and Krzysztof Rogalski (Pchełki). The band has performed in clubs and at festivals in Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. So far, two full-length albums by RZWD have been released: POMPY (Fonoradar Records 2020) and GOLD (Fonoradar Records 2022).

Album GAPS Recorded in November 2023, is the result of two years of work that merges classic POST-PUNK GUIDE with a rich electronic influence. On GAPS, RZWD aims to craft DANCE NOISE CLUB MUSIC on their own terms, pushing the limits of what a LIVE BAND can be in achieving this.
Most of the tracks evolved during RZWD's concerts in countries like Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Germany, and Estonia. These experiences and ideas were shaped into the album between November 2023 and May 2024. Live recordings in Szczecin were done by Adam Sołtysiak, while additional recordings and production were handled in Toruń under the supervision of swrcfx.
The core idea behind GAPS was to use developed themes as a starting point for further variations and exploration within DANCE NOISE CLUB MUSIC. This time, the instrumentation includes bass and an ever-expanding, mutating layer of modulation. Therefore, the album features four brand new compositions alongside four remixes of tracks from previous albums.
The album also features guest appearances by: DANIELIUS PANCEROVAS from the Lithuanian band KANALIZACJIA, adding a saxophone touch to the track DIESEL, and KRZYSZTOF FREEZE OSTROWSKI - a renowned Polish electronic musician and producer, bringing a new sonic perspective to EURO TRACK from the DMO EP.
Among the multidimensional concepts blending environments, genres, styles, and techniques found on GAPS, the pursuit of synthesizing acoustic and electronic sounds stands out. RZWD creates a space where the boundaries between these domains blur and lose their significance.
The result is a groove-driven and noisy mix of dance music styles such as RAVE, TECHNO, HOUSE, and FOOTWORK, played beyond rigid tempo measurements and DAW limitations, relying on natural skills and intuition. It's a soundtrack that works best as a backdrop to movement, whether coordinated or not.
RZWD:
SKI - DRUMS, ELECTRONICS
KRZYSZTOF ROGALSKI - BASS GUITAR
CEZARY ROSIŃSKI - DUBS, SYNTH, MOD. It's not exactly their first collaboration though, having released two EPs, 'Doze Ruinas' and 'Jangadas', and being colleagues in Hydra Ensemble (with cellists Lucija Gregov and Nina Hitz).

When film maker Lex Reitsma commissioned Rutger Zuydervelt for the soundtrack of his documentary about photographer Koos Breukel, Zuydervelt proposed to involve Gonçalo Almeida. Reitsma agreed and visited Almeida to record a selection of double bass improvisations. The plan was for Zuydervelt to weave these recordings into the score, but in the end not much of it was used.

Both Almeida and Zuydervelt felt that the wealth of recorded material was too beautiful to lay to waste, and since they had plans to create more music as a duo anyway, it was logic step to give this session a new purpose.

After a few false starts (and more than a year after the recording), Zuydervelt found a successful angle and constructed 'Eventual'; a long-form drone composition, created by combining multiple edits of Reitsma's recordings, and making use of the gorgeous harmonics and overtones of Gonçalo's playing.

While Almeida is also a master in furious skronk, 'Eventual' highlights his more minimalistic and patient side, combined with the detailed and multi-layered sound design by Zuydervelt. The icing on the cake is the beautiful mastering by Jos Smolders.

___

Gonçalo Almeida (Lisbon, 1978) is a Portuguese musician and composer based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. With a strong interdisciplinary and collaborative approach to his work, Gonçalo plays in a variety of projects that go from modern jazz, freejazz, jazzcore and free improvisation music, having shared the stage with improvisers such has Ab Baars, Balasz Pandi, Chris Speed, Carlos Zíngaro, Ig Henneman, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Jasper Stadhouders, Jorrit Dijkstra, Luis Vicente, Luis Lopes, Martin van Duynhoven, Nina Hitz, Peter Jacquemyn, Rodrigo Amado, Rutger Zuydervelt, Susana Santos Silva,Tobias Klein, Wilbert de Joode, among others.

He is the founder/main composer/ bass player of Hydra Ensemble, Lama Trio, Albatre, The Attic and member of Spinifex, Tetterapadequ, The Selva, Roji, Almeida/Duynhoven/Klein trio. Gonçalo Almeida also collaborates frequently with audio-visual artists, modern dancers, poets and theatre makers, such as Arnold Dreyblatt, Julyen Hamilton, Rita Vilhena,Ricardo Jacinto, Pierre Bastien, among others.

Since 2001 has been touring internationally within several of these projects, in Europe, U.S, India and Japan. Adding to a prolific publication of records on international labels from his various projects, Gonçalo Almeida created also his own digital label, Cylinder Recordings, in order to document and share material from his frequent and experimental encounters with other improvisers, making crossovers between musicians from different projects and researching on new collaborative paths.

____

Rutger Zuydervelt resides in Schiedam, and is active as an electronic musician/composer as well as graphic designer. He operates under the name Machinefabriek often, and released a great amount of albums on various labels, numerous of them collaborations - with artists such as Peter Broderick, Chantal Acda, Dirk Serries, Vasco Trilla, Michel Banabila, Gareth Davis, and many more.

Rutger also regularly does commissioned work for dance pieces, film and television, and art projects. He worked with choreographers like Iván Pérez, Yin Yue, Alexander Whitley, and Roshanak Morrowatian, and with film makers Makino Takashi, Jessica Gorter, Margarida Cardoso, Lex Reitsma, and more. They are back with a new album "We've Been Through".

After exploring several so called Neo-Folk regions, flirting with Folk Noir, mostly with Traditional Folk in a modern perspective, for example Americana to Tex-Mex and Balkan Music to Alternative Country, on this third record the ensemble drifts to a cinematic landscape, focusing on the theme of overcoming.

We've Been Through puts together World Music elements incorporating an almost soundtrack experience for a journey into both Day and Night, Hope and Disillusionment and telling stories of broken romances and shipwrecks.

Utilizing banjo and theatrical vocal delivery, together with with classic and odd instruments, the band remap the original charts but still set sail the desired destinations. I guess.

Neither John nor Mateusz are blues artists, they may not necessarily qualify for the strictly electronic scene, in fact, they cannot be pigeonholed, defined and encapsulated in one term. Their joint album shows a particularly difficult task for journalists and reviewers, but very friendly for listeners who do not have to name anything, define anything, define or systematize anything.

Legend has it that John Donatowicz and Mateusz Rosiński met on December 10, 2011 in a now non-existent club in Zielona Góra run by the founder of Gusstaff Records. It was then, after the solo performance of The Human Elephant, during joint discussions about music, an offer was made to DJ-ing together and get to know each other better. It can be said that the first joint song Elephant Dials was also written in 2011, however it was never finished, and then it died along with the computer disk.

Soon after, Rosiński left for Gorzów, where he later started Dym Records and the Club Sejf. From time to time, the gentlemen played common DJ sets in Zielona Góra, Gorzów and Berlin, sharing a common language in music. In 2017, John, tired of Berlin and his hometown Chicago, hungry for Poland (sic!) had settled meanwhile in Gorzów. It is worth mentioning here that the artist has Polish roots. In the pandemic summer of 2020, Rosiński and Donatowicz recorded tracks in Gorzów at Sejf, a former municipal bath.

The mood of the music was undoubtedly influenced by the character of the post-German city, which is so beautiful that even its ugliness does not tarnish the image, and in the city center it often smells like shit. Just as the yeast has to grow, the material laid dormant for another year and a half. In the winter of 2022, Rosiński put on a helmet, mixed and refined the pieces, which were then mastered by Mateusz Wysocki. During the session, the band decided to go for a radical sound. The album basically does not feature the musicians' primary instruments. The basis for the whole is electronic instruments. There is no bass guitar or double bass at all, electric guitar only appears in one moment, and the drums are either processed or replaced by a drum machine. It was important this time to capture a sound detached from their own habits and not entirely associated with Lotto, which required a lot of imagination from the musicians. The session itself came at a rather difficult time for the band, which was fresh from a grueling, ill-fated tour. Fatigue and a kind of resignation, or apocalyptic atmosphere can be heard in the recorded music. Voices appear on the album, which is also unusual. In 'Dogs in the Distance,' Lazy Dolphin sings, while in 'South of the Sun,' it's Antonina Nowacka, and in a few moments the voice of Mike Majkowski, who also contributes on recorder, can be heard. At that time, the band was known for playing quite extreme sounds, the instrumentation was all electric, supplemented with synthesizers, and the drums were processed. This was a consequence of the sound contained on the previously released album - Hours After. Before the performance in Spatif, the musicians decided to make radical changes, something that had happened quite often in the history of the band. Instead of playing very loud and intense music again, which is what the audience expected, Lotto played a muted concert, with subdued, stagnant, disturbing music, at times on the verge of silence. Instrumentation had become much simpler, acoustic drums, double bass and guitar - as the only electric instrument. The concert went so well that the band decided to record similar music in the studio. In order to capture the appropriate atmosphere, a suitable room was needed, different from sterile, soundproofed studio rooms. The choice was the Kana Theater in Szczecin, a place known to the group, as they had performed there twice before. The large hall with natural reverberation suited the music climate very well. In the recording you can also hear ambient noises, e.g. life from neighboring offices or the sounds from the stairwell. Filip Marcinkowski, the band's friend, publisher of the Hours After album, became the recording engineer. The two-day session fell on record-breaking heat that year, the stifling atmosphere reflected in the music. After opening the theater gates, a strong heat wave hit. Neither night nor morning gave respite. A dormant city, standing still, with a stuffy and disturbing atmosphere, as if something strange was about to happen. This is more or less the music on the Summer album. IWANSKI (Rafał Iwański a.k.a. X-Navi:Et, known from groups VOICES OF THE COSMOS, |ALA|MEDA||, HATI, ex Innercity Ensemble) presents new sound project explorating experimental approach to ethnic instruments like zanza, kalimba and other idiophones of African origin.
Advanced electronic techniques are mainly used to process various acoustic sources - in order to create organic electroacoustic music. The unique marriage of "foreign traditions and technology" - is, however, a path that goes further than ethno-ambient.

Author's note:
The idea of composing and recording an album of electroacoustic music for instruments of African origin from the lamellophone family was born more than 10 years ago. At that time, after the X-NAVI:ET concert at the Blurred Edges festival in Hamburg, I bought my first instrument from this group of idiophones - it was a sanza from South Africa. Then, over the years, other sanzas and kalimbas came along. I now have six lamellophones in my collection of acoustic instruments, comprising several hundred from all over the world. These instruments, from a group of idiophones that has been close to me for years due to their practice (on which, for example, the sound of the band HATI was based from the beginning), generally go under at least four basic names, depending on the region of Africa: zanza, mbira, kalimba, likembe. Plucked idiophones are found in countries such as Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Angola, Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Malawi, Nigeria and South Africa, among others. The generic name kalimba is the most common, thanks to English ethnomusicologist Hugh Tracey. During the recording of the tracks on 'Transformations I', I also used other percussion instruments (including rattles, spring tubes and metal objects). I processed the sound of the zanza, kalimba and zanzula through various effects processors and partially looped.
Among the peculiarities of this group of instruments is the extensive use of the acoustic effect of the aliquots (i.e. the components of the sound) and the fact that they are mixed in the resonator, which greatly enriches the sound. Interestingly, the instrument's scale and sound are also characterised by the principle of "equalising moods" - both stimulating and calming them, while maintaining the rules of dialogue. A feature of this instrument is, as it were, the 'ease of reception'. Anthropological and ethnomusicological analyses confirm the popularity of plucked idiophones throughout the world, despite their African specificity. The fact of the popularity of the zanza and possibilities of use in different situations has not only changed the meaning of the instrument, but has also influenced technical improvements.
In a broader context, I was following in the footsteps of one of the most eminent artists and philosophers of the 20th century, the American composer John Cage, who, as early as the 1940s, foresaw and anticipated many of the trends that have been dominant in music for several decades (e.g. electronic music, ambient, emphasis on the role of percussion instruments and rhythm). Cage included his reflections in many essays and aphorisms. One thought of the master could be the motto for the "Transformations I" project: "The function of art is to imitate nature in her manner of operation".
My ethnological education at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń helped me to develop the subject from a theoretical point of view. From the beginning, I pursued my studies with an ethnomusicological and practical bent, which manifested itself, for example, in repeated participation in percussion music workshops (mainly conga drums, doumbek, djembe) or the construction of pastoral folk instruments and even in the adaptation of found objects. Ihave visited North Africa and Cuba several times, bringing back a number of instruments and records and cassettes from these trips. The final topic of my master's thesis, defended in 2004 in the Department of Ethnology at the Nicolaus Copernicus University, was "The influence of non-European cultures on the musical and theoretical activities of 20th century composers".
I have previously recorded and published individual pieces using the South African zanza. The instrument appeared, among others:
- in the track 'Oto Technosis' on the album "Technosis" (CD, 2016, Instant Classic):
https://xnaviet.bandcamp.com/track/oto-technosis
- in the track 'Rain Machine' on the international compilation 'Instruments imaginaires' (MC, 2020, TRUC), conceived and curated by the eminent French composer and instrument builder Pierre Bastien: https://compilationstruc.bandcamp.com/track/x-navi-et-rain-machine
My last solo gig I performed for electro-acoustic instrumentation - still as X-NAVI:ET – in November 2019 in London at the phenomenal 'Music for Hypnagogic States' event, sharing the stage with Sufi music masters KHAN BROTHERS (PK/UK) and modular synthesiser specialist Alex Macart aka AHRKH (UK).

I will present my first solo concert as R. IWANSKI, with a new electro-acoustic programme adapting 'Transformations I' to the conditions of 'live' presentation, on 28.01.2023 at a venue I have been associated with for more than a decade as part of the VOICES OF THE COSMOS activities - that is, the Planetarium and Astronomical Observatory in Grudziadz (PL).
I wish you a pleasant reception of the album "Transformations I".

Rafał Iwański

Star Birth is a flung fisherman's net, mighty in scope, irrevocable as looking up from the stone floor of a cathedral – there is space, yet there is profound intimacy from the immediacy of the lyrics, our thoughts rattling around like panicky goldfish. Only 134 copies of this version available worldwide.

Hailing from the Los Angeles underground of the 1980s, Savage Republic forged an astonishing reputation for themselves as art-punk and industrial pioneers with their legendary
performances. Their brand of ritualistically tribal exhibitions blurred the boundaries of Post-Punk and Industrial music.
Their music incorporates minimialist bass rumbles, exotic and/or militaristic drumming, Arabic melodies, alternate tunings, primal chants and even a bit of surf guitar.
Savage Republic released four full length albums in the 1980s, plus several live records and compilation tracks.
1989 everything went quiet as the republic scattered to pursue other interests and their labels and distributors folded. After reuniting in 2002 for a brief U.S. tour supporting the boxed-set reissue of their five studio albums by Mobilization Records, several of the members began sharing ideas for new songs, reviving the band officially in 2005.
In 2006/2007 Savage Republic added drum professor Alan Waddington (the Unforgiven) to the line-up and released "1938" on Neurot Recordings, the band's first studio recording in 18 years. The limited edition "Siam" EP was also released on Neurot Recordings featuring alternate mixes of some of the "1938" material.
In 2021 Savage Republic released the album "Meteora" on Gusstaff Records and during the tour promoting this album in January 2023, the band also played a concert in Wrocław, Poland. It became not only a document of this route, but also a kind of summary of their entire history.
The album is released in CD format (the entire concert), as a black LP (over half of the concert) and as a limited red vinyl with an 8-inch vinyl record (lathe-cut) added with a few remaining songs from the concert. Both LP versions were pressed on thick 200g vinyl. Vinyl versions include download codes with the entire concert.

Thom Fuhrman about this tour:
"After every tour, there is an afterglow. The first 7-10 days after is a combination of exhaustion, joy, and waking up not knowing where the f*ck you are, wondering if you have to go to soundcheck, and then the disappointment when you realize that tour is over and there won't be a load in, soundcheck, show, and load out tonight.
I can honestly say that of the dozen European tours we've done, this was the most physically arduous. Yeah, we played longer tours in '87 and '88, but the band is much more physical on stage now, more demanding of ourselves, and frankly, a f*ck of lot better. We've become the Savage Republic that I always hoped we would be, but never were in the old days.
I demand a lot of my bandmates, but I know that in our limited available time , we accomplish so much ,and we've proven that time and again with this line up since 2009.)
On January 5th, woke up that morning in Belgium with a broken down van and the prospect of having to cancel our first show in the band's 40 year history. I told Ethan there is no f'ing way we're not playing in Berlin that night! Ethan went into action. Organized trains, and along with promoters, found amps and drums at the very last minute. We showed up several hours late, but when we finally got there, we played one of our best shows ever.
This story sums up this incarnation for me. I've said it a million times and I'll say it again, I wouldn't make another Savage Republic record with any other line up. Thank you to everyone that made this tour and the upcoming "Live in Wroclaw"album happen. Thanks to Luc for helping Pesha get the van back on the road. First time available again on vinyl.

This is The Wreckery album that never was but always should have been!

At the crest of the Australian post punk era, The Wreckery played atmospheric rock with film-noir swagger and renegade attitude, carving a loyal following. Critics quickly positioned them as successors to a darkly exciting avant-garde Melbourne tradition previously marked out by The Birthday Party.

Early recordings for Rampant Records (1985-87) showcased The Wreckery's fusion of swamp blues and noir-jazz, delivered with a deadpan, reckless, and romantic cut (check out the 'Ruling Energy' video!). Creative tensions saw the band implode as they were reaching their peak with the Laying Down Law album (Citadel Records, 1988). Yet another great and dangerous rock 'n' roll band who became a danger to themselves.

35 years later, the new album Fake is Forever delivers on unfulfilled promises, revealing The Wreckery on fire like never before. The DNA is still there – the signature sound of Charles Todd's baritone sax; the scathing lyrics and vocals of Hugo Race; the distorted angular guitars of Clayton-Jones; the eclecticism of multi-instrumentalist Robin Casinader; Nick Barker and former Plays With Marionettes drummer Frank Trobbiani fuse as the solid engine room of this iconic group. All the original edge with a new maturity and control.

The songs still emanate from the deep, dark end of the musical gene pool.
