Built around recordings by the acclaimed pedal steel player Henry Senior, the album's six hypnotic and enveloping tracks are supplemented with piano, strings, synths and field recordings performed by Wallis.The making of the album took an unplanned route. During the winter 2021 lockdown, Wallis began work on an album of more conventional songs, sending several to Henry Senior (Danny and The Champions Of The World, Honey Harper) to record pedal steel parts remotely. Though subsequently deciding to shelve the album, he realised that Senior's pedal steel outlines of the songs formed the basis of something completely different.The result is an immersive, meticulously crafted album that recalls the ambient pedal steel work of Chuck Johnson and Daniel Lanois mixed with the ethereal post- classical instrumentation of Stars Of The Lid and the field recording work of Claire Rousay.\u003ci\u003eIn Huge Gesturing Loops\u003c\/i\u003e is Wallis' fourth release in as many years. The album's title comes from a poem by Philip Larkin. A drummer in Modern Nature (members of Ultimate Painting \/ Beak\u0026gt;) and Still Corners, Wallis is also a superb ambient artist in his own right, releasing his debut album on Tip Top Recordings.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe album accompanies forthcoming independent movie ‘Europa’. ‘Europa “Based on a True Story”, will be premiering in the main competition at the International Documentary Film Festival of Amsterdam this month, and documents the story of an asylum seeker who takes his own life. Wallis learnt to play the cello especially for the album, something that was a somewhat cathartic experience for the talented multi-instrumentalist: “Since my grandma passed away in 2012, her beautiful old cello had been sat untouched in my parents’ house, so I dusted it off and started taking lessons.
