Joining Foreigner with Spooky Tooth’s Mick Jones, Lou Gramm sang on solid gold rock classics ‘Cold As Ice’ and ‘Feels Like The First Time’, from their debut Atlantic album, which they followed in 1984 with the ‘Agent Provocateur’ album and the chart topping power ballad, ‘I Want To Know What Love Is’. Choosing to return to a simpler rock format, Lou Gramm released his debut solo album, ‘Ready Or Not’, in 1987. Produced by Pat Moran with Lou Gramm, it featured the hits ‘Midnight Blue’ and ‘Ready Or Not’ plus an appearance from guitar hero Nils Logfren. Lou also found time in 1987 to record a track for the soundtrack of teen horror flick, The Lost Boys. After returning to Foreigner for 1987’s ‘Inside Information’, Lou released his second solo album ’Long Hard Look’ in 1989. Capitalising on the success of his debut, it was produced by Peter Wolf (famed for his production and arrangement work for Frank Zappa, Heart and Kenny Loggins) and included 'Just Between You And Me' which was another huge smash, making No.6 in the U.S. Hot 100, followed by the single 'True Blue Love'. The album concludes with a cover of the Small Faces' 'Tin Soldier'." The third disc in this set gathers together some of his Atlantic-era rarities, including two versions of 'Lost In The Shadows (The Lost Boys)' from the aforementioned soundtrack. 'Ready Or Not' is represented with three mives and hit single ‘Midnight Blue’ was issued in various formats, including a very collectible transparent blue 12 inch single, which featured an ‘Extended Remix’. A single edit of 'True Blue Love' has been selected from "Long Hard Look". To promote Lou’s 1987 debut, Atlantic Records released the very rare and highly collectible LP, "Questions And Answers", a promotional album distributed to radio stations featuring Lou interviewed by Dan Neer as he discusses the genesis of the ‘Ready Or Not’ record, and his career to date, circa 1987.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0867/1120/6219/files/Questions_and_Answers_The_Atlantic_Anthology_1987-1989_16b6e86d_thumbnail_40.jpg?v=1728111298
released-1
Released

New solo album from Foreigner front man Lou Gramm. Ten original songs from Lou written with former Black Sheep member Bruce Turgon.

The album features appearances from Tony Franklin on bass for the track 'Long Gone' and Vivian Campbell on guitar for opening track, 'Young Love', alongside long-term musical associates, such as Lou’s brother Ben on drums.

Hailing from Rochester, New York, Lou Gramm was born into a highly musical family, and his first significant band was the bluesy hard rockers Black Sheep, who released two underrated records for Capitol. Lou first met his future band mate Mick Jones when Black Sheep played a hometown show with the band Spooky Tooth, then featuring Mick, in 1975. The pair would eventually team up in 1976 as Foreigner for a string of multi-platinum albums and chart topping hit singles. In fact they were the first band since The Beatles to have their first eight singles reach the US Top 20.

While still a member of Foreigner, Lou embarked upon a solo career, releasing 'Ready Or Not' in 1987, which featured the huge solo hit, 'Midnight Blue'. It was followed by another smash solo album, 1989’s 'Long Hard Look' featuring the hit, 'Just Between You And Me'. Now in 2026, Lou releases his long awaited third solo offering, the much anticipated, and suitably titled, 'Released'. Produced by Lou himself, 'Released' can stand proudly alongside Lou’s previous solo albums, as well as his matchless recordings with Foreigner.

The album also features 'True Blue Love (Unplugged)', which had originally appeared on 'Long Hard Look' back in 1989. Reconnecting with his former Foreigner band mates, Lou contributed words and vocals for the new song 'Turning Back The Time' to coincide with Foreigner’s induction into the Rock And Rock Hall Of Fame in 2024, and also the unreleased 'Fool If You Love Him' for the latest Foreigner '4' box set in 2025.

Ready Or Not was the debut solo album by Lou Gramm (the great vocalist ex Black Sheep and Foreigner and pre Shadow King). With his lovely warm and nervous voice, he is easily one of the best vocalist in AOR. He and co-writer Bruce Turgon penned some mighty good tunes here, these ten tunes mostly pound and growl with intensity. The opening songs are strong and catchy. The title track starts things off with blasts of distorted, chunking power chords with a rip-roaring guitar solo that sets up Gramm's signature scream. It is followed up by "Heartache", a song that places a slapping drumbeat out in front of a very tasteful, but very 1980's synth. These tracks lay the groundwork for the album's highlight, "Midnight Blue", the kind of song that I long to hear become mainstream once again. "Time" features a thumping verse that leads into a sing-along chorus.
