These were accompanied by wider scale releases available in all usual outlets across UK \u0026amp; EU.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eOperational between 2014 and 2022 and run by Dom Martin (who also ran Earworm and The Great Pop Supplement as well as Deep Distance and more recently Feral Child), the label enjoyed a hugely loyal fanbase. The other two cuts, fan favourite “Carbon Bubble” and the ultra-rare “Cosmic Debris”, which amply showcases Knox’s more expansive, experimental-but-still-melodic side, made available for the first time on vinyl.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eOn the flip, Mat Handley’s Pulsliebhaber project was an exercise in super-fast recording with as little computer use as possible (for sequencing or processing). Although, as Mat explains “my keyboard playing skills are rudimentary (at best), first takes were used just about every time. Each of my seven tracks were written and recorded in a single session with not one of them taking more than a couple of hours to finish, some of them significantly less than 60 minutes. I think the original intention was to record a bunch of tracks and revisit them later, but after sending them to Dom PY it was agreed to release them as they are with just a little sheen provided by Jez Butler’s mastering.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eSo yes, some of the timings are shaky with the odd bum note here and there, but the process was very refreshing especially after spending five years each on the first two Pulselovers albums. Drums were all provided by Volca Beats and the Volca Kick (with maybe one appearance of the Drum Brute). Synths used were the MFB Dominion X, the Korg MS20 Mini and my trusty old Bass Station 2. So much of their greatest work featured across epic 15 minute plus jams- ideal for the cassette format, but trickier for wax. Perhaps bearing a nod to a more Kraftwerk-ian feel than previous output but uniquely fresh and of the moment and still maintaining that old school BBC educational \/ testcard \/ soundtrack feel that David has within his music.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eAs with most of Listening Center’s albums, it’s the interaction of the instruments and the pathos of melodic and harmonic combinations which are foregrounded. The nine pieces here were composed and recorded during a period when it was possible to perform live shows and this album largely features the setup from that time: TR606, CSQ600, some modest modular kit, and synth-pop classics such as the Yamaha CS01, among others. The events across two nights December 25 and 26 1980 in Rendlesham Forest, Suffolk, have gone down in history; nowadays often dubbed the UK’s most famous UFO incident or “Britain’s Roswell”.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eWhile Adam himself reveals more to the story below, artist and label strongly urge you to further investigate, it’s an incredible passage of events with long lasting repercussions to the present day.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eReturning to the record here, and by way of introduction Adam himself says: “the album is an instrumental, electronic record, soundtracking arguably Britain's most remarkable UFO occurrence, from Suffolk 1980. Side 1 soundtracks the bizarre Christmas\/Boxing Day case (which includes local Sergeant, Jim Penniston encountering and receiving a binary code from a \"craft of unknown origin\") and Side 2 which brings to life the curious events witnessed by Lt. The stage only lit by a couple of candles and an epilepsy inducing strobe light; the music breathing the atmosphere of being locked up at an old-school bunker rave with Charlemagne Palestine strumming the piano. This record is the music as it was presented that night. Cranked up, entranced and delusional”.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eThe two Phantom Horse tracks here, are companion pieces to the duo’s \u003ci\u003eMehr Null \u003c\/i\u003ealbum which came out in late 2020. While that album showed a darker, more nightly character, “Vaporsnake” and “Was drauf” sound more like playful counterparts, bathing in the bright light of day. As the duo themselves explain: “’Chain smoke rings like a vapor snake kiss. She says she don’t know why.’” That’s what the voices in your head might whisper while you’re listening to “Vaporsnake”; characterized by the band’s typical light footed melancholia echoing through these words. After that, things take a brighter turn on the 12-minute neo-kraut weirdness of “Was drauf” – imagine a sunburned android fueled by amphetamines frolicking happily through a meadow singing your favourite song”.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e“Was Drauf” is an epic kraut gem and worth the proverbial price of admission alone here. A wonderful record housed in a sleeve knowingly -and tipping it’s cap towards- the mighty first Cluster record (post Kluster) in 1971 on Philips.
