Forming in early 2021 and figuring out a way to jam and write songs in between rules and restrictions, The Prize landed on a blend of power pop and rock and roll that's equal parts brains and bravado.

The joyous new five-piece bring three guitars and five voices that harmonise together to make some of the best power pop this city has heard in years. With lead vocals primarily shared between drummer Nadine Muller and guitarist Carey Paterson, the five-piece is rounded out with Joseph Imfeld on guitar, Austin Haire on guitar and Jack Kong on bass. After the dust settled from the city’s miserable hiatus, The Prize played their first show to a sold out Croxton Bandroom opening for Civic in November 2021.

Their sound blends the hooks of The Nerves, twin rock ’n’ roll leads of Thin Lizzy and minor progressions of later era Flamin’ Groovies with the fullness and power of the Ramones and the dynamic punch of Face To Face era-Angels and early Divinyls. Obvious influences shine through on their sensational cover of the obscure 1979 power pop classic, “Fighting My Way Back”; originally by British group, The Incredible Kidda Band.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0867/1120/6219/files/1354d142-fc5f-4b66-8f0e-4ef5d9f66c8d_thumbnail_4096.jpg?v=1726266312
first-sight
First Sight

Since forming in early 2021, The Prize have established themselves as one of Melbourne's premier rock and roll outfits, funnelling vocal soaked hooks and harmonies through a three guitar onslaught and a pulsating rhythm section. Their unique blend of power pop and rock and roll has earned new fans and followers from all sides of the globe. The Prize’s debut EP "Wrong Side of Town' sold out on the first day of its release and received high praise from the likes of punk legend, Henry Rollins. The band quickly found itself securing plum support slots for bands like the Sunnyboys, Pavement and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. This culminated in a national tour supporting The Chats in late 2022 that has helped to establish them as a premium live act with the tunes to back it up.

To top it all off, The Prize are set to embark on their first international outing in August/September 2023 supporting KGLW and the Murlocs on their European tours with a number of headline dates across Europe and UK. “First Sight”, the much anticipated second release from The Prize will be out just in time for the EU/UK tour via Anti Fade Records and Drunken Sailor from August 18th.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0867/1120/6219/files/The_Prize_-_First_Sight_607f44c2_thumbnail_4096.jpg?v=1726751331
in-the-red
In The Red

Melbourne’s fave three-guitar rock’n’roll power poppers The Prize have at long last released their debut album In The Red via Anti Fade Records in Australia and Goner Records in the USA.

The Prize made their debut for Anti Fade in 2022 with the EP Wrong Side Of Town which prompted global interest in the band.
