Born on September 9, 1962, in Arlington, Virginia, Linkous began playing music as a teenager. Described as an artist who \"compelled listeners to heed the beauty of darkness\" by Pitchfork, \u003cstrong\u003eSparklehorse\u003c\/strong\u003e released many influential records, including the renowned albums \u003cem\u003eVivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot\u003c\/em\u003e and \u003cem\u003eGood Morning Spider\u003c\/em\u003e in the '90s, \u003cem\u003eIt's A Wonderful Life\u003c\/em\u003e and \u003cem\u003eDreamt for Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain\u003c\/em\u003e in the early naughts, and a collaborative album \u003cem\u003eDark Night of the Soul\u003c\/em\u003e released in 2010.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThroughout his career \u003cstrong\u003eMark\u003c\/strong\u003e collaborated with thought-provoking artists like \u003cstrong\u003eVic Chesnutt\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eDaniel Johnston\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eTom Waits\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eDanger Mouse\u003c\/strong\u003e, and \u003cstrong\u003eDavid Lynch\u003c\/strong\u003e. While \u003cstrong\u003eMark\u003c\/strong\u003e recorded in various studios, collaborating with other musicians and producers, he did much of his work in his home studio, \u003cem\u003eStatic King\u003c\/em\u003e, often playing and recording everything on his own.
