A famed local Mancunian scenester, record sleeve cover model (that’s her on the cover of The Bodines’ ‘Therese’, among others) and admirable performer, just why things never quite commercially clicked for her is a true mystery. A flirtation with possible great success with Solar Race - complete with ongoing support from John Peel, an LP for Silvertone recorded at Abbey Road by Steve Albini, and opening slots on Bush and Hole tours - didn’t really pan out, despite the stars seeming so perfectly aligned. Described by those who knew her as intelligent, ambitious and kind, Eilidh's life ended in tragedy in 2014. Her body was discovered at her home some time after her actual passing. No official cause of death was revealed. It was in those younger, carefree days of 1990 or 1991 - actual dates unknown - that Eilidh recorded a session of true pop perfection, with able assistance from Si Wolstencroft from The Fall, Chris Bridgett of Dub Sex, Andy Rourke from The Smiths and Primal Scream’s Martin Duffy. Eilidh and Si financed the session; all the fellows backing her did so out of sheer admiration for Eilidh’s talent. The four tracks they recorded were long thought lost, until Chris stumbled across a tape earlier this year. Each song is a stellar shimmering example of a project which might have led to a huge success, making the failure of any label to pick up the recordings a mystery. Sadly, three of the five members of this amazing quintet have now left us - Eilidh, Martin and - just shy of a year ago - Andy. It’s a small miracle that these tapes were found, roughly a third of a century after the studio date that produced them. This 12” EP comes in a 12” LP sleeve and is pressed in exceedingly limited numbers.
