The album was co-produced by PSB with Andrew Dawson, who engineered much of Kanye West’s album \u003ci\u003e808s and Heartbreaks\u003c\/i\u003e, a record which Neil Tennant had become ‘mildly obsessed’ with at the time. The darker lyrical themes of \u003ci\u003eElysium\u003c\/i\u003e are reflected in the record’s sound. Neil Tennant said: ‘It is deep in terms of the sound - got a lot of sub-bass - it's sort of deep in terms of subject matter, the way it's expressed. But I think it's the Pet Shop Boys' most beautiful album’.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e2CD - 13 Track Extra CD. The ‘Further listening’ album of additional material alongside this \u003ci\u003eElysium\u003c\/i\u003e reissue features previously unreleased demos entitled \u003ci\u003eVocal, She Pops\u003c\/i\u003e and \u003ci\u003eIn Slow Motion\u003c\/i\u003e, as well as PSB mixes and remixes of \u003ci\u003eLeaving\u003c\/i\u003e and \u003ci\u003eMemory of the Future\u003c\/i\u003e. The album is packaged with an extensive booklet in which Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe discuss each song, illustrated with many archive photographs.
