In the way American folk and blues had looked back to gospel songs and spirituals, Fairport mined a seam of traditional English folk song, and then combined them with rock rhythms to create something ground-breaking and quickly emulated.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eFor many, this is the first time the considerable talents of \u003cstrong\u003eRichard Thompson\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eSandy Denny\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eAshley Hutchings\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eIan Matthews\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eDave Swarbrick\u003c\/strong\u003e, and \u003cstrong\u003eDave Mattacks\u003c\/strong\u003e would have been heard on record.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eAlthough all of that would have been difficult to ascertain on their jaunty, hippy 1968 Polydor debut \u003cem\u003eFairport Convention\u003c\/em\u003e.
