OA member LTO and (oc)cult rapper Mowgli combine forces to create an intense EP that exists in a bewitching interzone between abstract sound poetry, dense wordplay and electronic hip hop, quite unlike anything else you'll hear this year. With themes derived from magical texts, and featuring Mowgli, an MC who's intense wordplay was last heard on his interpretations of Mount Kimbie, the EP dives off into unknown, engaging territory. Mowgli's vocals attack the logic of sentences, creating meaning from world association and deconstructing words and structure in a way that the listener just has to give attention to rather than try and understand. 'Gone To Seed' opens with the sampled sound of a lift rising and repeating to create a concrete rhythm, setting a stark scene for Mowgli's dense open verses, dropping agile bars, glottic half words and onomatopoeias just out of ear shot, wrapping a veiled camouflage around his stories. 'Morning On Mercury' is made out of a slow piano melody, crackles and layers of reversed drums forming a digital crust, before a vocoder melody opens, describing a scene in a room. Mowgli's darting, electronically treated rhymes create a blur of riddles and intense imagery, describing scenes and scenarios that open up trapdoors and wormholes in your imagination. 'Metal On Oxtongue' is the most recognisable as an Old Apparatus-style production. A mournful vocal melody is looped with grimey claps and kicks. Mowgli pummels the listener with cut-up subjects, running through word association of symbols and adjectives like a flick book giving the track its own internal logic.
