This is the way to make a thrash album. Ten tracks clocking in at twenty-eight minutes, all fast, an easy way to make an impact and a point.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eOvernight acts like Celtic Frost, Bathory, and Destruction were made to look as crude as they were, while \u003cem\u003eExodus\u003c\/em\u003e, \u003cem\u003eMetallica\u003c\/em\u003e, and \u003cem\u003eAnthrax\u003c\/em\u003e seemed tame by comparison. \u003cstrong\u003eHanneman\u003c\/strong\u003e and \u003cstrong\u003eKing\u003c\/strong\u003e established themselves as thrash's premier guitar duo, and rightfully so, the level of twisted genius running through \"\u003cem\u003eNecrophobic\u003c\/em\u003e\", \"\u003cem\u003eCriminally Insane\u003c\/em\u003e\", and \"\u003cem\u003eAngel of Death\u003c\/em\u003e\" something they themselves had trouble topping.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eI once read one seasoned metal scribe remark how no one had heard drumming like \u003cstrong\u003eLombardo\u003c\/strong\u003e's up until '\u003cem\u003eRIB\u003c\/em\u003e', and the drum sound is crisp and clear, always fast and banishing memories of Lombardo's efforts on the first two albums. The main reason \u003cstrong\u003eSlayer\u003c\/strong\u003e distinguished themselves from most was their ability to retain melody amongst such a vicious rampage.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eEvery song has a discernible hook and melody line, something that was lacking from many, particularly Euro bores. Whether this is the greatest thrash album, I don't know, it's in the top five certainly, \u003cstrong\u003eSlayer\u003c\/strong\u003e equaling this in many ways with '\u003cem\u003eDivine Intervention\u003c\/em\u003e'.
