Launched in 1983 on Canal Street in New York City, it was conceived at the Rum Runner Bar by Joseph Nechvatal, a trailblazing visual artist; Claudia Gould, a discerning curator; and Carol Parkinson, a composer and integral member of Harvestworks/Studio PASS. This innovative endeavor aimed to create an avant-garde audio cassette magazine for the growing community of Walkman and Boom Box enthusiasts. Curated with the founders as the first Tellus compilation in over 20 years and the most extensive to date, Earth Libraries‘ limited edition record includes 28 tracks across 2 metallic silver LPs, liner notes by Thurston Moore, original artist bios, an 11×17 promo poster, and a 3 patch. As Earth Libraries unveils its tribute to Tellus, it offers not only a reminder of the magazine’s rich legacy but also an invitation to future generations.
