{"product_id":"the-edge-of-the-world","title":"The Edge Of The World","description":"\u003cp\u003eThe success of \u003cem\u003eFear and Whiskey\u003c\/em\u003e in 1985 saw the Mekons with a stable line-up and enough money to record a new album for the first time in years.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe songs on \u003cem\u003eEdge of the World\u003c\/em\u003e were written and demoed in Leeds by \u003cstrong\u003eTom\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eJon\u003c\/strong\u003e, and \u003cstrong\u003eKevin\u003c\/strong\u003e early in 1986 and recorded at Offbeat Studios in Kirkstall with Three Johns live Soundman Tony Bonner who had recorded parts of \u003cem\u003eFear and Whiskey\u003c\/em\u003e the year before.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eAround this time the live band was expanded further to include \u003cstrong\u003eRico Bell\u003c\/strong\u003e and \u003cstrong\u003eSally Timms\u003c\/strong\u003e who both perform lead vocal duties on \u003cem\u003eEdge of the World\u003c\/em\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eAt one point during the recording sessions a version of the band traveled to the northeast of England to perform some live shows and procure valuable funds leaving \u003cstrong\u003eLangford\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eEdmonds\u003c\/strong\u003e, and \u003cstrong\u003eGoulding\u003c\/strong\u003e in the studio cutting rhythm tracks.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eMartin Bomber Henderson\u003c\/strong\u003e of Keithley Gothic band the Skeletal family drummed in the live band at this time but does not appear on the album.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe album was mixed in London and was the third release on Sin Recordings of Brixton through the York based distributor Red Rhino.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe day \u003cstrong\u003eKevin\u003c\/strong\u003e was putting the artwork together for the record cover \u003cstrong\u003eJon\u003c\/strong\u003e and \u003cstrong\u003eTom\u003c\/strong\u003e were flying to the states for the second Three John's US tour.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe plan was to put the names \u003cstrong\u003eJon\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eKev\u003c\/strong\u003e, and \u003cstrong\u003eTom\u003c\/strong\u003e on the three crosses in the foreground of the desert scene but \u003cstrong\u003eKevin\u003c\/strong\u003e felt uneasy about doing that and left the names off.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eTom\u003c\/strong\u003e and \u003cstrong\u003eJon\u003c\/strong\u003e survived the transatlantic flight due to this wise action.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Sin","offers":[{"title":"Black | LP","offer_id":50463909118283,"sku":"1074930","price":27.99,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0867\/1120\/6219\/files\/33e3341c-f3ff-4e5b-9e60-f7aba9723204_thumbnail_4096.jpg?v=1727268364","url":"https:\/\/shop.roughtrade.com\/de\/products\/the-edge-of-the-world","provider":"Rough Trade","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
