As a whole, the project documents the way my heart has moved and stumbled and shapeshifted in that time. In a lot of ways, ‘Lovergirl’ feels like a character - a version of myself that needed a chance to bask in the light as I got to experience a sense of freedom I had been unknowingly yearning for. Angel Numbers, serving as an intro track, is a bittersweet and unknowingly nostalgic ode to the longest love of my life - a relationship that showed me the meaning of unconditional love while also showing me how much of myself I still needed to find. Brooklyn moves us into a more naive, effervescent, and city light adorned memory and celebration of stepping into queerness. Groupie follows, still riding that high. Despite me being used to being the one on stage, I was spending time with someone who loved to be the center of attention; and it felt nice to let her bask in the spotlight. Creative Liberties sits in a moment of self-awareness amidst self-soothing delusions. I started writing Alchemical after going on a first date that left me spinning for weeks after. Plainly, it’s a song about yearning. In contrast to the way I was feeling in Creative Liberties, I didn’t feel like I was imagining or fictionalizing anything. There was a palpable and obvious reciprocity in excitement, and we were both so bad at playing it cool that I didn’t have to question how they felt. Carolina Honey is a continuation of wanting so badly to lean into that feeling. If you eagerly peer over the edge of a cliff for long enough, odds are you’re going to fall. Without A Doubt closes the project, and I think the best way to describe it is a love song for the cynics and the realists. If I’ve learned one thing over the past year, it’s that feeling things deeply and loving are messy endeavors. We try to mitigate pain, myself included, but every single time we try, we’re shown that pain is an inevitable byproduct of the privilege of getting to hold something beautiful in our hands while we have the chance to.

Only in retrospect have the Pink Fairies taken their rightful place in UK music history.
