One or two went on to fame and fortune, but the majority failed to find the hit single that would have given them the chance to build and sustain a career.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eKent\u003c\/strong\u003e outfit \u003cstrong\u003eJason Crest\u003c\/strong\u003e are one of the most admired of those bands, issuing a handful of singles while also recording a batch of tracks – \u003cem\u003eKing Of The Castle\u003c\/em\u003e, \u003cem\u003eCharge Of The Light Brigade\u003c\/em\u003e, \u003cem\u003eMy House Is Burning\u003c\/em\u003e and others – that were arguably even more commercial and accomplished but which, for some unfathomable reason, were rejected by the men in suits.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eA 2-CD set, \u003cem\u003e“A Place In The Sun”\u003c\/em\u003e assembles all their recorded work in one place for the first time, with the group’s five singles joined by that clutch of superior studio outtakes and, gaining their first-ever CD release, two radio sessions that were independently recorded in the late Sixties prior to the group evolving into Island signings High Broom. Featuring cult classics \u003cem\u003e‘Black Mass’\u003c\/em\u003e, \u003cem\u003e‘Turquoise Tandem Cycle’\u003c\/em\u003e and, of course, the Moody Blues-style title track, \u003cem\u003e“A Place In The Sun”\u003c\/em\u003e is a newly remastered digipak release.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eIt includes a 24 page booklet containing the band’s full story, including quotes from lead singer and chief songwriter Terry Clark and drummer Roger Siggery, as well as a profusion of rare memorabilia and photos. The result is a great British late 60s psych album, recommended if you like Tomorrow, Procol Harum, Moody Blues, Small Faces, The Move, The Who et al. The origins of Jason Crest are in beat band The Good Thing Brigade. Originally from Kent, they made quite a stir in the London club circuit, supporting established groups like The Who and The Moody Blues. No wonder they caught the eye of en vogue producer Fritz Fryer (Open Mind, etc...) who got them a contract with Philips, changing their name to Jason Crest after one of their songs, “'The Collected Works of Justin Crest”. Between 1968 and 1969, the band released five singles and left behind a bunch of unissued demo recordings \/ acetates. Jason Crest’s music run the gamut from brilliant psych-pop full of wah-wah organ to Mellotron \/ phasing fueled introspective numbers and even heavy acid-psych \/ proto-metal on the freaky “Black Mass”. Sadly, due to lack of success and problems with the label and between the band members, the band split after releasing their last 45 in 1969. Vocalist Terry Clark joined hard-rock band Orang-Utan, whilst the remaining members formed High Broom (featuring ex-Mike Stuart Span \/ Leviathan guitarist Brian Bennett).
