Through his radical arts collective La Creole, Sylvere has been an essential figure in championing marginalized sounds and communities, creating an inclusive space on the dancefloor for consciousness-raising, “partying as a form of campaigning” as they put it. The collective’s parties and Rinse radio show have quickly made ripples through the global underground, cited as one of Dazed and Confused’s “best new parties” and with work from the collective featured in The New York Times. Each swaggering kick and percussive snap lands harder, humid bass rising like heat from the concrete to mingle with arcing melodies. “Work My Body” immediately sets the tone, snaking from the speakers with an inescapable groove, before “Ah Oui Ah Oui” ratchets up the tempo with fizzing pirate radio pressure. “Bright Clash” pushes even further into nosebleed territory before breaking apart into aching synth pads. The EP reaches its apex in “Epiphanie”, Sylvere’s glassy synthesizers elevated by the silken flow of fellow Parisian Le Diouck, a glistening follow-up to the latter’s acclaimed collaboration with Low Jack and Lala &ce on PAN experimental theater piece and album Baiser Mortel. “What is This?” and “6am” push the EP’s tectonic rhythms into driving techno mutations, recalling Sylvere’s unique radio selections.

Raised in Paris with roots in the French West Indies, Sylvere combines an immersion in the history of soundsystem music with a keen eye on the future of the music. The past two years have been tough for just about everyone, and while it would have been easy for Catnapp to let feelings of despair soak into her creative process, she refused to succumb to darkness. For those eagerly awaiting the moment Funkstorung would come around the corner with a new innovation of electronic music, just like they did with their first record: This time they did not. Instead they do what they do best and take up the path they started to carve with 'Disconnected': Luscious pop songs with heavy backbones, illustrious guests adding heartfelt vocals to a bed of fizzing basslines. It is a very vocal album - there are guest singers on nearly every song on the record - but they do not domineer the sound of it. They all just contribute to a fresh version of Funkstorung that has ripened a bit and got seasoned with a hell lot of flavour. Some of the voices on 'Funkstorung' have been part of the family for a while, some of them, like Jamie Lidell, are new collaborators. But whether with old friends or newfound partners all of the 14 songs on the album get to the heart of electronic pop. As a whole, the record seems so well balanced it's ready to be an instant classic. Each of the songs transports a timeless quality of content sunny vibes which would go as well with a very expensive wine in front of a fireplace, as with a plastic cup of beer and rubber boots at a muddy festival. Instead of concentrating on glitches and breaks the effort of the two producers has gone into growing every sound into perfection, one can feel that no time pressure fixated a detail onto the wrong place. Like the duo say, the record is 'evolution not revolution'. The album comes in a beautiful sleeve design by lauded graphic artists Zeitguised and Sebastian Onufszak. Meanwhile, Modeselektor, comprised of Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary, reach another level, [and] develop an intoxicating energy with their distinct rhythmical textures.CD - 9 Tracks.2CD - 13 Tracks.LP - 8 Tracks.2LP - 9 Tracks.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0867/1120/6219/files/III_Deluxe_Edition_6f4019aa_thumbnail_4096.jpg?v=1727291943
who-else
Who Else

This is the new album by Modeselektor. It has been in the works for two years and was made within a month. It’s a record offering essential Modeselektor, a record formed by experience, self-confidence and the usual madness. It raises a question and answers it straight away. Who Else is yet another counteraction to boredom and formulaic approaches. Hear Modeselektor casually kicking against the pricks. Somebody’s gotta do it. Who else?

Technical knowledge and craftsmanship have improved their creative process, but in the studio they are driven by the same old things. It’s the quest for the beat they haven’t made yet, the eternal hunt for the perfect mix. No bass drum sounds like the other on this record, no snare repeats itself in a different track. Each hi-hat is tailor-made, no synth sound recycled on another occasion. This isn’t one of those predictable techno records, and that’s what makes it such an effort: the endless search for new sounds while always bearing in mind that less is more.

Who Else represents the sound of Berlin in all its ambivalence. It features lead single Wealth, a hip hop track featuring London Grime artist Flohio. WMF Love Song pays tribute to the long-gone formative Berlin club, but who could call these relentless UK vibes nostalgic? Estonian rapper Tommy Cash parties on the crunchy and playful Who, Otto von Schirach lends his screams to the dark industrial techno of I Am Your God. And there’s many other tracks that show Modeselektor rambling, raving, experimenting or just enjoying themselves. Is all of this considered hot and valuable by dance industry standards? Doesn’t matter, they don’t play by these rules too much. Who Else is a record freed from outside pressure, only driven by a personal ambition to once more put out a great album.

LP - Black Vinyl.

LP+ - Limited Picture Disc with Poster and Download.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0867/1120/6219/files/33a6e9d7-90a7-40dd-b9e6-a31041bdb86b_thumbnail_4096.jpg?v=1727310639
monkeytown
Monkeytown

Welcome to Monkeytown. Thom Yorke collaborates on two tracks, contributing his production finesse and haunting falsetto to the dark tension of “Shipwreck” and to the psychedelic caverns of “This,” where pixelated vocals echo from the shadows with ominous overtones.

Trashy dance floor rocker “Evil Twin” is drenched in metal and concrete, like the demented industrial offspring “Kill Bill Vol. 4” and “The Black Book.” Modeselektor pulls out hidden drawers of bass in the funky “German Clap,” a steaming monster that grabs with gasping urgency. Miss Platnum rides low and slow into “Berlin,” smoothly spreading vocals over the chunk-ridden rhythm, a luscious R&B offering to lap up like cream. The album breaks open entirely and monkeys run wild in “Grillwalker,” a slamming club behemoth fashioned from mutilated 8-bits and a delirious bassline.
