Early on, his prodigious technique and wide-ranging style garnered comparisons with the great Oscar Peterson. But there has always been another side to Alexander's playing. Usually, jazz grabs the upper hand, but on occasion he digs deep into his Jamaican roots.

The 1974 We've Only Just Begun recording signals the beginning of Jamaican pianist Monty Alexander's fruitful relationship with MPS, lasting over a decade and encompassing some dozen albums. On many he partners with no one else than fellow Jamaican and one of the fathers of ska, guitarist Ernest Ranglin. Among others, this Best Of includes tracks from Monty's MPS classics like RASS!, Here Comes The Sun, Montreux Alexander - The Monty Alexander Trio Live At Montreux, We've Only just Begun, Monty Strikes Again, Cobilimbo, or the untitled Monty Alexander & Ernest Ranglin.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0867/1120/6219/files/mpslp17684__35208_f941bde4_thumbnail_4096.jpg?v=1727593245
love-you-madly-live-at-bubbas
Love You Madly: Live At Bubbas.

Live At Bubba’s is a previously unissued recording of the Jamaican jazz piano icon Monty Alexander captured live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida at Bubba’s Jazz Restaurant on August 6, 1982.

Recorded by legendary engineer Mack Emerman, who founded Criteria Recording Studios (Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Eric Clapton), Live At Bubba’s features bassist Paul Berner (Lionel Hampton Orchestra), drummer Duffy Jackson (Milt Jackson, Benny Carter) and the acclaimed percussionist Robert Thomas, Jr. (Weather Report, Jaco Pastorius, Carlos Santana).

The deluxe 2CD includes an extensive booklet with photos by Jan Persson, Raymond Ross and Brian McMillen; essays by veteran jazz writer Willard Jenkins, pianist Benny Green and producer George Klabin; plus interviews with NEA Jazz Master Kenny Barron and others.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0867/1120/6219/files/803cfe98-f11e-490f-9277-a42d0d523b43_thumbnail_4096.jpg?v=1727786922
the-montreux-years
The Montreux Years

A showcase of Monty Alexander’s iconic Montreux Jazz Festival live performances between 1993 to 2016.
