'dust and dirt' introduces new sounds and styles not heard on the previous releases whilst still retaining the trademark black seeds sound the band has become so known for. 'cracks in our crown,' 'loose cartilage,' and 'the bend' all take the experiments with funk begun on solid ground in even further directions. 'don't turn around' finds the band doing a fresh take on a disco-boogie jam full of old school funk and plenty of bouncy playfulness. the opener 'out of light' sounds different from anything the band has tried before, tipping into an almost psychedelic pop sound, while roots gems like 'love me now' and the title track remind listeners that the black seeds are still one of the finest classic reggae bands in the business. all of these new styles are brought into the mix in a natural way, without forcing sounds, letting the songs be mini-experiments that organically evolved. in all, 'dust and dirt's 13-tracks are testament to a band at the top of their game, reveling in their newfound creative freedom.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0867/1120/6219/files/57be9663-98b4-4831-90d6-ac8dcb050ea8_thumbnail_4096.jpg?v=1726958566
love-and-fire
Love and Fire

Love and Fire is the seventh full-length studio album from the multi-platinum selling reggae hybrid band The Black Seeds. It was developed over the past few years, beginning with a series of creative sessions in 2018 at the band’s creative incubator The Surgery in Wellington, New Zealand.

The original plan was to then do a classic “band in a room recording,” which got thrown out the window once the pandemic hit and lockdowns began. At that point, the group got creative, working remotely between various home studios of the band members, and the result is as strong a record as they’ve ever done, managing to capture the feelings of the past few years in a cohesive set of new songs.

The Black Seeds continue to evolve musically while defying expectations, yet still always seem to sound like no one else but themselves.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0867/1120/6219/files/8651a1d5-83b0-4622-9e72-586a7ef920d3_thumbnail_4096.jpg?v=1727270998
keep-on-pushing
Keep On Pushing

Twenty years on, The Black Seeds mark the anniversary of their debut album Keep On Pushing as a first ever vinyl release.

In 1998, The Black Seeds formed their roots in Wellington - a creative, 90s rock based community that was embraced by the sounds of the likes of Shihad, Fur Patrol and Weta. 2001 marked the beginning of the Welly Roots sound and the release of The Black Seeds 'Keep On Pushing' reaching platinum sales in New Zealand and shaping the funk, soul, Afrobeat and other eclectic elements over their dub/reggae foundation.

Keep On Pushing's bold themes of love, optimism and solidarity has resonated with fans across the world, shaping them as the creative, vibrant 8 piece band they are today.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0867/1120/6219/files/ed3774bc-4335-46e9-bdd2-ba4f0cef1f54_thumbnail_4096.png?v=1727446150
