This combined with \u003cstrong\u003eRobin Guthrie\u003c\/strong\u003e's minimalistic and heavily effected guitar arrangements; a great deal of distortion and feed-back, smoothed out with chorus, reverb, and flanger. Beneath is the Roland 808 drum machine thumping along, as distinctively Cocteau sounding as the guitar. All while \u003cstrong\u003eElizabeth Fraser\u003c\/strong\u003e seemed to veer into glossolalia and mouth music.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eGarlands\u003c\/em\u003e marks the beginning of their haunting ethereal sound.
