In fact, they emerged from the same British blues boom of the late 60s that had given us \u003cem\u003eFree\u003c\/em\u003e, \u003cem\u003eFleetwood Mac\u003c\/em\u003e and \u003cem\u003eTen Years After\u003c\/em\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eFoghat\u003c\/strong\u003e formed in London in 1971 when \u003cstrong\u003eSavoy Brown’s\u003c\/strong\u003e “Lonesome” Dave Peverett on guitar and vocals, Tony Stevens on bass, and drummer Roger Earl joined forces with \u003cstrong\u003eBlack Cat Bones’\u003c\/strong\u003e Rod Price on guitar.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eKicking off with their Dave Edmunds-produced self-titled debut (\u003cem\u003eFoghat\u003c\/em\u003e CD1), ‘Foghat’ was snapped up by the fledging Bearsville Record label – home to \u003cem\u003eTodd Rundgren\u003c\/em\u003e and \u003cem\u003eSparks\u003c\/em\u003e, among others – in 1972.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eMaking Willie Dixon’s ‘I Just Want to Make Love to You’ their own, the band found favor on the US’s emerging FM radio playlists, a key promotional tool in those far-off, pre-MTV days.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eWasting no time, the band released a second self-titled LP – also known as Rock and Roll (\u003cem\u003eFoghat\u003c\/em\u003e CD2) in 1973, with the record going gold in the process.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eBranching out a little on their third opus Energized (\u003cem\u003eFoghat\u003c\/em\u003e CD3) was released in 1974. Hardly finding time to unpack their road-worn flight cases, 1974’s Rock And Roll Outlaws (\u003cem\u003eFoghat\u003c\/em\u003e CD4) includes 'Blue Spruce Woman’ and ‘Chateau Lafitte ’59 Boogie’.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eFoghat\u003c\/strong\u003e finally attained platinum selling status in 1975 with the million-selling Fool For The City (\u003cem\u003eFoghat\u003c\/em\u003e CD5). Featuring two of their most enduring, chest-beating, boogie-rock anthems in the title track and ‘Slow Ride’, \u003cstrong\u003eFoghat\u003c\/strong\u003e had taken their British boogie to the American masses, and won.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eWorn out by the relentless touring schedule that helped make the band a huge concert draw from coast to coast, Tony Stevens left the band in 1974. His replacement was producer Nick Jameson, who took over on bass guitar for the album and was largely responsible for Slow Ride.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eIt wasn’t all about life on the road, as there was a high demand from radio across the globe for new singles from \u003cstrong\u003eFoghat\u003c\/strong\u003e, which have been collected together as various mono and stereo edits on CD6.
