They were joined by \u003cstrong\u003eMichael Monarch\u003c\/strong\u003e (lead guitar) and \u003cstrong\u003eRushton Moreve\u003c\/strong\u003e (bass).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe band signed to Dunhill \/ ABC Records and were propelled to success in 1968 with their classic single ‘\u003cem\u003eBorn To Be Wild\u003c\/em\u003e’ which became even wider known when the track was featured to great effect in the classic 1969 counterculture film Easy Rider.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eOver the next four years, the band released eight albums and enjoyed huge success. In February 1972, Steppenwolf disbanded, with \u003cstrong\u003eJohn Kay\u003c\/strong\u003e recording a solo album, but by ’74 they had emerged once again and over the next three years they would record three further albums for Epic.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eFollowing on from Magic Carpet Ride, Esoteric’s acclaimed boxed set of the first era of Steppenwolf’s career, \u003cem\u003eThe Epic Years 1974-1979\u003c\/em\u003e gathers together all of these albums, along with two rare bonus tracks.
