The band initially served as a backing band for singer Marsha Hunt and also featured \u003cstrong\u003eRick Wakeman\u003c\/strong\u003e. However, Wakeman left the band in April 1970 to join Strawbs.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eWarhorse signed a licensing contract with Vertigo Records and released their self-titled debut album in November 1970. The band embarked on tours following the album release, but their lineup changed before recording their second album, \u003cem\u003eRed Sea\u003c\/em\u003e, which was released in June 1972.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eAfter the release of \u003cem\u003eRed Sea\u003c\/em\u003e, drummer Mac Poole left to join Gong, and \u003cstrong\u003eBarney James\u003c\/strong\u003e replaced him in Warhorse. The band continued until 1974, but vocalist \u003cstrong\u003eAshley Holt\u003c\/strong\u003e and Barney James eventually left to join \u003cstrong\u003eRick Wakeman\u003c\/strong\u003e in his band, The English Rock Ensemble.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe two albums recorded by Warhorse are considered fine examples of Progressive Hard Rock from that era.
