The music was inspired by lead singer Greg Dulli’s idea to make a film noir movie. Although the film was never made, it did help inform the album’s dark tone and fuel songs like the singles \u003ci\u003eHonky’s Ladder\u003c\/i\u003e and \u003ci\u003eGoing To Town\u003c\/i\u003e. The album opener, \u003ci\u003eCrime Scene Part One\u003c\/i\u003e was inspired by the screenplay for \u003ci\u003eThe Million Dollar Hotel\u003c\/i\u003e, while \u003ci\u003eBlame, Etc\u003c\/i\u003e. reflected on the troubled life of Temptations singer David Ruffin. This reissue includes nine previously unreleased recordings. Among the standouts are acoustic versions of \u003ci\u003eGoing To Town \u003c\/i\u003ecalled: \u003ci\u003eGo To Town\u003c\/i\u003e and \u003ci\u003eCrime Scene Part Two\u003c\/i\u003e. Also included is a demo for \u003ci\u003eFaded\u003c\/i\u003e, which closed the original album, as well as a solo piano cover of the New Order classic \u003ci\u003eRegret\u003c\/i\u003e.
