Lyrically the album took on darker subject matter and had a reflective tone, the band quoting that it was influenced by the 9\/11 terror attacks.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSince 1975 Motorhead - spearheaded by the grungy, iconic British metalhead Lemmy Kilmister - has been churning out speedy, macho, aggro anthems, including \u003ci\u003eAce of Spades, Killed by Death\u003c\/i\u003e, and \u003ci\u003eEat the Rich\u003c\/i\u003e. The phrases \"trendy\" or \"critical favourites\" have never been attached to the Grammy-nominated band, and \u003ci\u003eHammered\u003c\/i\u003e isn't the record to change Motorhead's anti establishment standing. The 11-song outing will, however, satiate longtime fans. The power trio rages - complete with piercing guitar solos and double-bass drums - on the urgent and winning \u003ci\u003eBrave New World,\u003c\/i\u003e and is only slightly more mainstream on \u003ci\u003eWalk a Crooked Mile\u003c\/i\u003e, which boasts melodic choruses and backup vocals, and crunchy rhythms matched with Lemmy's trademark gruff, guttural talk-singing. Lemmy's no sex symbol, and it's disquieting to hear him sing somewhat romantic lyrics on \u003ci\u003eDr. Love\u003c\/i\u003e and \u003ci\u003eMine All Mine.\u003c\/i\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe songs like \u003ci\u003eNo Remorse\u003c\/i\u003e and \u003ci\u003eVoices from the War\u003c\/i\u003e seem more suited to the singer-bassist's brusque persona.
