Their debut album, \u003cem\u003eStand in the Star. A Verse and a Chorus\u003c\/em\u003e, was first recorded in December 2007 with producer \u003cstrong\u003eChris Hamilton\u003c\/strong\u003e and finally reaches release in 2026.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe name came from a drunk audience member mangling “the X factor” into “the wow scenario”. By then, after years of poorly attended gigs, weekly singing lessons and plenty of hostility, the duo had decided to split. Still, they threw themselves into the sessions, adding jazzy guitars, freewheeling drums and airport field recordings.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eHamilton\u003c\/strong\u003e mixed the album in January 2008, then it was shelved. In 2018, \u003cstrong\u003eMark Brown\u003c\/strong\u003e and \u003cstrong\u003eGuy Fletcher\u003c\/strong\u003e re-recorded the vocal melodies on saxophone, clarinet and fiddle, but the songs still felt unfinished.
