In 1978 he accepted an invitation to join David Bowie’s band on the Isolar II world tour, and he subsequently appeared on Bowie’s albums \u003cem\u003eStage\u003c\/em\u003e and \u003cem\u003eLodger\u003c\/em\u003e.\u003cbr\u003eHe contributed to Tom Tom Club’s debut album and embarked on a solo career in 1981, the same year he also joined a reformed King Crimson as second guitarist and vocalist. Following King Crimson’s hiatus in 1984 he formed The Bears, an acclaimed power pop band, but revived his solo career in 1989, signing to Atlantic Records and releasing the album \u003cem\u003eMr Music Head\u003c\/em\u003e on which he played most of the instrumentation himself.
