A celebration of \u003cstrong\u003eGirlschool\u003c\/strong\u003e’s 40 plus years of rocking the globe, kicking off with their independently released 45 ‘\u003cem\u003eTake It All Away\u003c\/em\u003e’ \/ ‘\u003cem\u003eIt Could Be Better\u003c\/em\u003e’.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eFormed at school in the mid-70s, when friends \u003cstrong\u003eKim McAuliffe\u003c\/strong\u003e on guitar and bassist \u003cstrong\u003eEnid Williams\u003c\/strong\u003e joined forces as Painted Lady, \u003cstrong\u003eGirlschool\u003c\/strong\u003e formed in 1978, swept up as part of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal movement that also gave us Iron Maiden, Def Leppard and Saxon, recruiting lead guitarist \u003cstrong\u003eKelly Johnson\u003c\/strong\u003e and drummer \u003cstrong\u003eDenise Dufort\u003c\/strong\u003e in April 1978.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eDebut LP \u003cem\u003eDemolition\u003c\/em\u003e made it into the UK Top 30 in 1980, and the girls even found time while recording their follow up album \u003cem\u003eHit And Run\u003c\/em\u003e (1981) with producer Vic Maile, to record the ‘St Valentines Day Massacre’ EP with label mates Motörhead as HeadGirl. 1982’s ‘Wildlife’ EP would be \u003cstrong\u003eEnid\u003c\/strong\u003e’s last outing with \u003cstrong\u003eGirlschool\u003c\/strong\u003e for a while, as she was replaced on bass by \u003cstrong\u003eGil Weston\u003c\/strong\u003e for \u003cem\u003eScreaming Blue Murder\u003c\/em\u003e (1982).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eTheir fourth album, \u003cem\u003ePlay Dirty\u003c\/em\u003e (1983), was issued in the States on Mercury Records, who also picked up the option to release their fifth, \u003cem\u003eRunning Wild\u003c\/em\u003e (1985). The first album to be released without \u003cstrong\u003eKelly Johnson\u003c\/strong\u003e, it saw founder members \u003cstrong\u003eKim McAulliffe\u003c\/strong\u003e and \u003cstrong\u003eDenise Dufort\u003c\/strong\u003e joined by \u003cstrong\u003eGil Weston\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eJackie Bodimead\u003c\/strong\u003e (lead vocals, keyboards) and \u003cstrong\u003eCris Bonacci\u003c\/strong\u003e (guitar).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eA new deal with GWR saw albums \u003cem\u003eNightmare At Maple Cross\u003c\/em\u003e (1986) and \u003cem\u003eTake A Bite\u003c\/em\u003e (1988), by which time the bass slot had been filled by former Rock Goddess \u003cstrong\u003eTracey Lamb\u003c\/strong\u003e. Their eighth studio album, the self-titled \u003cem\u003eGirlschool\u003c\/em\u003e came out in 1992 and 2002’s \u003cem\u003e21st Anniversary – Not That Innocent\u003c\/em\u003e marked the beginning of a more prolific time for the band, as they would follow it up with \u003cem\u003eBelieve\u003c\/em\u003e (2004), \u003cem\u003eLegacy\u003c\/em\u003e (2008).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eCD 4 features many rare B-Sides and non-album cuts, as well as demos dating from 1978 up to 2002 and CD5 boasts an ultra rare live recording from the pre-\u003cstrong\u003eGirlschool\u003c\/strong\u003e Painted Lady.
