Cymande

Formed in 1971 in London, England, Cymande is a band comprised of talented musicians from Guyana, Jamaica, and Saint Vincent. Their name is derived from a calypso word meaning dove, representing peace and love. They have developed their own unique style of music called Nyah-Rock, which combines funk, soul, reggae, and African rhythms. Initially finding success in America during the 1970s, Cymande's music has since been widely appreciated by influential figures in Hip-Hop such as Kool Herc, DJ Jazzy Jay, and Grandmaster Flash. Their captivating sound has been sampled by leading artists in the genre since the 1980s and featured in various films. After reforming around 2010, Cymande continues to captivate audiences with their live performances.
