ECM was founded in Munich in 1969 by Manfred Eicher. Its catalogue links jazz and contemporary classical music with unusual clarity and patience, from Keith Jarrett’s The Koln Concert to recordings by Jan Garbarek and Arvo Pärt. That distinct aesthetic has made ECM one of the defining independent labels in modern improvised and composed music.
