Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, professionally known as Shakira, is a Colombian singer and songwriter born on February 2, 1977. She comes from a diverse background with her mother being Colombian of Spanish-Italian descent and her father being American of Lebanese-Italian descent.

From a young age, Shakira displayed her passion for music by writing songs and belly-dancing. At just 14 years old, she released her first album and continued to release successful Spanish-language albums. However, it was in 2001 that she gained worldwide recognition with the English-language "Laundry Service" album.
