Chaka Khan, born on March 23rd, 1953 in Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Illinois, U.S.A., is a renowned artist known for her dynamic vocals. Raised on Chicago's South Side, she formed her first group, the Crystalettes at the age of 11. Chaka joined the Affro-Arts Theater while still in high school and later adopted the African name Chaka Khan during her involvement with the Black Panthers' breakfast program. She gained fame when she teamed up with Kevin Murphy and Andre Fischer to form Rufus after quitting high school in 1969.
Debuting in 1973 with a self-titled album on ABC Records label, Rufus became one of the leading funk groups of the decade due to Chaka's powerful voice. After going solo in 1978, Chaka began her successful solo career with hits like "I’m Every Woman" written by Ashford & Simpson. With nine albums and five Grammy Awards under her belt, she has also recorded popular songs such as "What Cha Gonna Do For Me?", "Clouds," "Papillion," "I Feel For You," and "Through The Fire."
