De La Soul

De La Soul formed on Long Island in 1987 and quickly opened hip-hop outwards. With Prince Paul, their debut 3 Feet High and Rising brought playful sampling and sharp, off-centre writing into the mainstream. As part of Native Tongues, Posdnuos, Trugoy and Maseo stayed inventive across De La Soul Is Dead and Stakes Is High.
