Environ

Environ was born in the spring of 1995 in the college town of Oberlin, Ohio. The label's founder, Morgan Geist, produced the Detroit-inspired "Premise EP," which featured crisp beats, emotive chords, and acid basslines. The debut release sold out quickly and showcased Environ's unique sound. In 1996, Geist released his own "REMnants EP," further solidifying the label's efforts to create music that appealed to both the mind and body. Environ faced challenges when their collaborative project "Titonton & Morgan EP" received mixed reviews and had poor presales. Despite setbacks, Environ continued to release innovative music throughout the late 90s.

In 1998, Environ struck a deal with Ideal UK and released four EPs that year. These included disco-techno hybrid tracks by Nebula Jersey as well as an experimental house EP called "What Is Today's R&B?" produced by Morgan Geist. Additionally, Environ signed NYC disco producer Daniel Wang for his eccentric and vibrant EP titled "The Mechanical Birds." This marked a shift for the label as it was their first solo release by an artist other than their founder.

In 1999, inspired by Daniel Wang's success and dissatisfied with their P&D arrangement, Environ brought their operations back to the United States. They launched Metro Area - a collaboration between Morgan Geist and Dar
