Pat Metheny

Pat Metheny was born in Kansas City on August 12, 1954 into a musical family. He started playing the trumpet at the age of 8 but later switched to guitar at age 12. By the time he was 15, Metheny was already performing with some of the best jazz musicians in Kansas City, gaining valuable experience at a young age.

In 1974, Metheny made his mark on the international jazz scene during his three-year collaboration with vibraphone great Gary Burton. His unique playing style blended loose and flexible articulation typically reserved for horn players with an advanced rhythmic and harmonic sensibility. With his debut album "Bright Size Life" released in 1975, Metheny revolutionized the traditional sound of jazz guitar for a new generation.

Throughout his career, Pat Metheny has continuously pushed boundaries by incorporating new technology and exploring the improvisational and sonic potential of his instrument. He has collaborated with renowned artists such as Steve Reich, Ornette Coleman, Herbie Hancock, Jim Hall, Milton Nascimento, Joni Mitchell and David Bowie among others.
