Pete Tong

Pete Tong is one of the key broadcasters in British dance music: a DJ, producer and presenter whose work helped bring house music into the UK mainstream. Born in Dartford, Kent, he first worked in music journalism before moving into A&R at London Records, where he encountered the early wave of imported Chicago house. In 1986 he co-organised The House Sound of Chicago, an important early introduction to that scene for UK listeners.

Tong also built his name on radio, from early appearances on local stations including Radio Invicta to a long association with BBC Radio 1. Alongside broadcasting, he founded FFRR and has remained a visible figure in club culture and large-scale orchestral dance projects including Ibiza Classics.
