120 years ago the community became an independent municipality, 100 years ago the famous letters were created - H O L L Y W O O D - for Bear Family Records reason enough for a jam-packed double CD! With 61 recordings from 1928-2011, Hollywood's story is told with icons like Kirk Douglas, John Wayne, Errol Flynn, Marilyn Monroe, Robert Mitchum, Clint Eastwood, Telly Savalas and many more: songs about Hollywood, songs by movie stars, and film scores from the silent era to the present. Some songs from movies were not previously released on LP or CD, e.g. R&R with Fred Astaire and comedian Jerry Lewis, movie hits like Moon River from Breakfast at Tiffany, Doris Day's Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps, more recent exclusive recordings by Val Kilmer, Los Lobos and the Hans Zimmer Orchestra as well as historical sound documents by Johnny Weissmuller and Marlon Brando and recordings by European Hollywood stars like Gina Lollobrigida or Sophia Loren round off this homage to Hollywood music. The 36-page full-colour booklet includes rare photos, illustrations and memorabilia, as well as the Hollywood story, written by renowned Chicago journalist and music historian Bill Dahl.
