Until Perfect Time, Archimedes Badkar had made four albums, with the the last one Bado Kidogo, recorded 1978 in collaboration with the Tanzanian band Afro-70 becoming something of a highly prized collector's piece. Kindred spirits to the American group Oregon and The Incredible String Band, and often featuring Don Cherry as a live guest (who was also an important influence as he also included the members in his own projects and recordings).
The basic tracks were recorded in five intense days at Silence Records´ Big Pink-style studio in the woods. It was music they had never played before, and they mainly kept the first takes. These live in the studio were then subjected to over-dubs and refinements, most of these made with reggae-dub-style-master Jonathan Sandberg in his Stockholm studio. Additional recording in New York added Per´s long-time friend Bill Laswell on bass for a couple of tracks, since the two had talked about collaborating for a long time, and another of Tjernberg´s long-time partners Dr. John who agreed to a little cameo appearance shortly before his unfortunate passing.
Apart from many new Tjernberg originals, the album pays homage to pieces of music that has remained crucial in the lives of the players with unusual, but loving interpretations of music by Willie Dixon, Grateful Dead, Bobby Blue Bland, The Fugs, Bob Dylan, Dr. John, Joni Mitchell, Duke Ellington, Santana, Alice Coltrane, The Rolling Stones, Don Cherry, Son House and Harpo Marx amongst others.
