a reissue of the second album by cult duo devine and statton, featuring vocalist alison statton (young marble giants, weekend) and guitarist ian devine (ludus, low gods). recorded in brussels early in 1990, 'cardiffians' is the duos second album. most of the twelve tracks were written by ian devine, except silence (co-written with alison) and their endearing cover of 'don't it make my brown eyes blue'. bittersweet songs about sunshine, rain, snapshots of the past, lovers and crests falling. 'cardiffians' features a fuller band sound that debut set 'the prince of wales'. guest musicians include bassist peter hook (of new order), avant-garde guitarist marc ribot (costello, t-bone burnett), and downtown new yorkers roy nathanson and curtis fowlkes (of the jazz passengers) on saxophones and trombone. long unavailable, the album was previously released on les disques du crepuscule in 1990, and has now been digitally remastered with five bonus tracks (two of them previously unreleased). the cd also boasts upgraded artwork, archive photos and liner notes by writer/editor everett true.
