Founded by Alessandro Pizzin, aka Alieno deBootes, in 1978, Ruins were active in the Venetian underground from the late 1970s. By late 1979, the group had become mainly a duo with Piergiuseppe Ciranna and Alessandro Pizzin, combining different backgrounds through a shared vision.

Alongside more conventional songs, they recorded a vast avant-garde body of work shaped by urgency, research and extreme experimentation. Their sound moves between reflective passages and noisy, bizarre, hard-to-define episodes. Open to multimedia, they also created sound-video installations and recorded one of the first art albums, Marea, in 1984.

A key release for collectors of the Unconventional Residents series, especially if you hear echoes of what the Residents were making at the same time.
