Originally released in 1985, Cupid and Psyche 85 includes sleeve notes written by Green Gartside and David Gamson.
From a bedsit in London to New York recording studios, the album showcases the journey of Scritti Politti from alternative acclaim to mainstream adulation. Despite radical shifts in their journey, the group's singular artistic vision remained intact and undiluted.
Green Gartside found a creative foil in pianist and programmer David Gamson, who helped him achieve the ambitions he had for Scritti Politti.
The second album was partially recorded in New York with tracks produced by Arif Mardin, known for his work with Aretha Franklin. Infused with shimmering synths and classic funk, Cupid and Psyche 85 is also embroidered with ideas from philosophical writings and myths.
